Default We had our cat put to sleep

We had to have Speck put to sleep. She developed a knot on her back that just popped up all of a sudden.

We took her to the Animal Hospital this morning and the Dr. said that it wasn't good and we could have x-ray's and possible surgery but it probably wouldn't sustain her life any longer than if we did nothing. And we didn't want to bring her back and watch her suffer or end up in more pain so we decided to let them go on and put her to sleep.

I had to come to work right afterwards so needless to say I've been kind of emotional. Joe went home and probably won't leave the house until he goes to get Paige from Day Care around 4.

If Paige does say something about it, how do you explain something like that to a 2 1/2 year old? And then there is the other cat and the dog that we have. I know they will notice that she isn't around either.

I'm so sorry to hear this. You are a kind person to care enough about your pet not to let them suffer. Hugs to you

Someone send me this poem when I lost my beloved cat a few years ago:

    Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

    I'm so very sorry!

Our dog died when Eleni was around 3, I told her that she was up in heaven watching over her. That seemed to work for that age group. I explained that she got sick, and had to go up to heaven to help Jesus watch over her. To this day she remembers that, and says that Madelaine (dog) is with grandma and grandpa watching over her to keep her safe.

It hurts so much, I know, but you did what was best for Speck, and you will see each other again.

I'm so sorry. I've lost so many pets over the years, but nothing is harder than having to make that decision.
