car insurance
I decided to look around for cheaper insurance on my van. WOW I had no idea what a deal I was getting. I have usaa and my premium is 415.00 for six months and that also includes a "storage only" policy that I have on a mustang in the garage. The quotes I am getting are for 600 and up and that doesnt include the mustang. I have a 2006 toyota that is paid for and a safe driveing record. IS 600 normal? What do some of you pay? Maybe I should leave well enough alone and stay where I am at.

I have a Dodge DurangoBTW never ever buy one of these - they are total crap!!!) and a Chevy Malibu LS on my policy. DH and I have clean driving records. We always keep full coverage with higher policy limits than most, rental car coverage, etc.... We pay $400 for 6 months.
We also had a Jeep Wrangler Sahara as a third vehicle until last December. With the Jeep our insurance was somewhere in the $500 range (if I remember correctly). Before that we had a BMW 535i with all of the bells and whistles as our third car and we were in the $550 range then.
We use Geico and have for years.DD (19)

Well I think that answers my question.
600 for one car with a good driveing record is to much.

We pay almost $800 for 6 months with Farmers.
But we are 21 (have to wait until 25 for a discount) and have a 2001 Ford F150 and a 2007 Harley Davidson Sportster, both with full coverage.
We have been talking about switching to USAA if it ends up saving us money. We might wait until DH is out of the Army (December) and see how much of a discount we get for him being a police officer before we make a discision.

The best thing about usaa is the refund they give at end end of the year. They also are very good about protecting you , if they think something isnt right they will fight it out for you. My dh had an old man cuase an accident and then he tried to claim he was hurt but refused to show any medical records. Usaa never gave him a dime. But I have been hit twice and usaa always paid for my repairs even when the driver didnt even call in the accident. So Ill all I have had three claims to them ( none where my fault) and they have protected me and paid in each case.

We're with AIG...it's my Dh and me on the policy, we have 2 cars...one full coverage, one liability...both have good driving records. 6 month policy is about $490. That's really low for up here (rates are high because of the long and ICY winters).
My Dh's best friend pays thru the nose...ok driving record, one car, full coverage, one driver...around $1125/6months! OUCH!!!
And that's not unheard of up here...

Man, am I jealous. Here is MA all auto insurance rates are set by the state - and not suprisingly, GEICO and Progressive are not offering policies in MA. You really can't call around for pricing, since the rates are fixed by the state. Some places will offer an incentive for, say, insuring multiple cars or also buying Homeowner's through the same company - but it doesn't make much of a difference. The only other place I checked with besides our currently insurer is Amica, and they were $400 more per year.
We have a 03 Honda Civic, and 97 Nissan Sentra. We are both the lowest "step" possible on the insurance rating. We live in a small city.
We pay - $2000/yr on both cars - 20% down in November, and then 8 even payments for the rest.
Right now we're in the happy period of no car insurance payments.

We pay $77 montly for full coverage on my van (not yet paid off) plus liability on DH's car (paid off). We also have our homeowners insurance through the same company, Allstate. We have used them for 7-8 years now and they have been the cheapest by far.
We used to have Progressive and they charged us over $200 per month! I called around and was floored at how much cheaper everyone else was and we immediately switched.Nicole, Mom of 4 ages 6-16~
