Getting a babysitter for DS
I am working on getting another promotion at work. In order to do this I can no longer be a SAHM during the day. I need to open up my availability. So I put an ad out on craigslist for childcare and got a million responses. I guess I will be conducting "interviews" with as many people as possible.
I need some advice. What kind of questions should I be asking them? I've never had to do this before so I am kind of nervous. I've only left DS with family.
Help?

I don't have any suggestions for you as far as what to ask a childcare provider but I did want to offer you a
. I am sure this is very difficult for you. Good luck to you in finding the perfect person to care for your son. I am sure you will find someone wonderful.

Ask what their schedule is, their child/adult ratio, ask about meals, nap times, vacations, holidays, what if he is sick (can he come or not).

Are you looking someone inside or outside the home ? I'd ask for references, I'd have them play with your child a few times.

I would ask them about their views/methods of discipline, depending on the age of your DS. I would also ask for plenty of references and leave your son with her while you go grocery shopping or just out for coffee a few times before leaving him for an extended period of time.
Also, if you google questions to ask potential babysitters or child caregivers, etc., you should get lots of ideas!Last edited by Kitten20; 08-28-2007 at 01:09 PM. Reason: silly typo

Also, if applicable, I would show up early and unannounced once or twice ("Sorry, I was gonna call on my way, but my cell phone died"... whatever). If they seem upset or something seems fishy/off, I would think twice about leaving your child with them. Maybe I am too distrustful of strangers, but imo they need to earn your trust when it comes to your child.

I would ask for References, parents of children they are now taking care of. I would do as much of a check on them as humanly possible. I would ask to see their certificate or any credentials. Visit the facility and check to see how clean it is, inside and outside.

PS. I would also find out who else lives at the home, (kids, relatives, ect...)
