Help! Cat issues.
I know there will be times like this.
DH put flea preventive on the cat, Fester. 24 hours later he realized he used the K-9 Advantix for the 80 lb dog instead of the cat stuff for an 8 lb cat. Terror took over, we made an emergency trip to the vet where he got a shot of steroids. The vet said there were no guarantees, we'd know in 24 more hours if he'll pull thru.
I put the cat in bed with us during the night. He was practically comatose. I dozed off. He peed himself. It stinks. BAD. I'll need new mattress pad, sheets, & a comforter. Because I was too cheap to buy a mattress protector, pee got into the pillow-top of the $2500 mattress that we saved dearly for a couple of years ago. We used bleach water & a 'little Green Machine" shampooer to clean it (at 3:00 a.m. ). The mattress now smells fine when I stick my nose up to it, but the room still smells like cat pee. I took everything out of the room like the sheets, rags, etc. Does anyone know if the smell will linger or dissipate?
I actually cut the mattress, thru the pillowtop. The cat pee didn't get into the part underneath (pretty neat to see how it is made). I *can* actually cut a chunk out of the pillow top and flip the mattress, since it has a pillow top on both sides.
Meanwhile, I carried Fester to a comfy spot to sleep. This morning he still isn't back to himself, but he's definitely improving. No doubt about it, cats have 9 lives. I think he'll be just fine.

I hope your kitty pulls through and gets back to his normal self.
As far as the room, and getting rid of the odor, I would close the door, open the windows and get a fan going in there to circulate the air.

Your poor cat! I hope it recovers quickly. I'd try the Nature's Miracle stuff and soak the areas. I've heard good things about it.

I second the Nature's Miracle. Got it at Petco and it wasn't too expensive. It doesn't mask the odor--it "eats" it. Available in many sizes.
Good luck!! Hope your kitty continues to improve. I put the correct type of flea/tick control on dd's 2 cats--and one started foaming at the mouth, and acting REALLY strange. Called vet etc--this was a common reaction some cats have to the treatment. Scared the be-jezers out of me. Needless to say we switched brands and doseage.Robin
