Default Glad to finally join in...

Hello, All! My best friend has been telling me that I should start reading and posting to this forum for quite a while as she knows how seriously I take my frugal lifestyle. This friend first met me when we both made insanely high salaries and spent in an even more insane fashion. Both of us are now still successful, but not due to high salaries, as we've left our former industry, but through our frugal ways.

I had been a New York City gal, thinking any life outside of Manhattan would hardly be worth living, but now I live in the Far North Country of New York State, living in a three story, stone home on a beautiful river that costs less than one fourth for all expenses (mortgage, taxes, utilities, even food) than just my monthly rent had been eight years ago in Manhattan. I can't even begin to think of going back. Where would I put all of my things? My Manhattan apartment had one small closet, while my new house has three spare rooms...all at a tiny fraction of the cost.

And so I live in this more quiet place, at this slower pace, and I've learned that there are many advantages to this lifestyle I could never have imagined in the past. Instead of going to the theater, I can amuse myself running around with the three dogs I now have, dogs that had been forbidden to me in The City. Instead of a different, exotic restaurant every night, I cook elaborate, yet inexpensive meals for myself, in a kitchen larger than my former living room and bedroom combined. I no longer "need" designer clothes, as I work from my home, and in this new place, no one really dresses up anyway. I must admit that my comfort at these changes did take time, but now I can't imagine going back to my frivolous ways. I take great pride in how little I spend and am quick to share new ways I come up with saving even more.

And so, I look forward to contributing and sharing among you all and look forward to perhaps helping some and reading of the successes of others. Cheers!

From another who lives in a laid back community, at a slower pace (well most of the time anyway) to the village!

Welcome to the Village glad you could join us. I am happy that you got out of the NYC rat race and enjoying the beauty of the way north of upstate NY. Glad to hear we have another New Yorker added to the family.
