OHHH... Dh gave me something!!!
Well, sorta. Dh and I and the kids are invited to the family. And he told me to take $200 or so and go buy me a nice dress!! (BTW, we just sold a vehicle, or rather I did, so any shortfalls are non existant, the EF is funded again. AND my daycare will be full likely after today). Dh saved and bought himself a suit last night. The only time I've seen him dressed up was our wedding. At most it's a shirt and tie. But he's been wanting a suit, and we have a friend who is very sharp in his suits and he set him up good. Very good.
So I get to buy a dress/shoes/accessories. What is flattering for a soon to be 34 yo, who's on the short and dumpy side? 5'2" and about 140lbs. Heavy legs..lol. I HATE shopping so if anyone knows some flattering styles for a dress. I am thinking black as I can dress up/down with accessories, such as jackets, necklace, sweaters, etc, if it's a nice fit.
I'm excited, but worried,as Id on't like shopping for clothes, EVER.

Have fun shopping. I would suggest the a-line style of dress that cut is flattering on just about everyone. It is easy to dress up. I also like a basic black dress, with classic styling and cut that can be worn for years. Bring someone with you that you trust. and will give you their honest opinion of how a dress looks on you. Try a bunch of differnt styles and colors on to find out what looks best on you. Remember when you go shopping to wear the correct undergarments, a pair of pantyhose, and a pair of dress shoes. Nothing spoils the look of a dress than trying it on with socks and the wrong shoes.
Remeber to have fun

OH Holly, you make me smile. I don't care to wear dresses or skirts.
But it's like Anita Renfroe in one of her sets said. Every woman picks up pictures and looks at them before they get home. Looks at pictures of herself and sighs, seeing her own image, thinking she's fat, with each picture getting more upset at how fat she looks. She gets home stuffs them ina drawer. 5 years later, pulls them out and looks at them and says, " Girl you looked hot in those pictures". Todays fat weight is the futures ideal weight..lol
What are women so critical of themselves? WHy??? Dh pats his growing belly, although not much there, but still, and goes "Baby it's bought and paid for, bought and paid for". Never thinks twice about it. Even a little proud.

I haven't had much luck with the shapers---they aren't comfy. I would suggest either a wrap style dress or one with some rouching around the waist. I bought a dress for my husband's leave and it had rouching around the waist--made me look 10 lbs lighter and my boobs 10 times as big!

Good luck finding the right dress. I have no suggestions...I would try to show up in shorts and a t-shirt. Don't like the way I look these days, that's why I avoid mirrors and dressing rooms. Its amazing what cargo shorts and a t-shirt can hide.
Funny about todays fat being tomorrows ideal weight. I so hear you on that.

Funny- Not that longs ago I saw a picture of myself and I couldnt believe how good I looked. However I remember that day very clearly and I almost didnt want to go becuase I thought I looked so fat and my hair was bad!LOL I can not believe how many skinny years I waisted thinking I was fat. NOw I really am fat. 5"4 and 198 pounds is not good.
Might I suggest that while you try on dresses you try one that is a little out of your box, thats usualy the one that will look the best.

I'm looking forward to going now. I spoke with a few people, and I've picked a store. I"m going to go with black, or maybe brown. Something I could put a jacket on to tone down, or some funky accessories to dress up. I'm so looking forward to it! I've not done this in a long time beyond replacing worn out jeans..lol
