Default Why I love my local library!

Not sure if everyone else feels the same way, but I am so glad I started going to my local library. It is a small thing to be excited about, but just wondering if I am the only one! I had been in my house in my town 3 years and never went to the local library here. I started going last summer when I dipped my toe in the frugal pond....and I figured my taxes were going to support it, so might as well get something out of it!

I got rid of my newspaper delivery, Netflix, and cut back on my cable service to a lesser service and now go to the library to fill in the "entertainment" gap! My library has a really good selection of movies ( DVD's and VHS) , books on tape, and tons of magazines too. They also have a nice box of free magazines that people donate and are free for the taking. I usually have a book I am reading, but sometimes I just want to peruse a magazine before I go to sleep and not think too much.

I now go at least once a week after work and this past week I have gotten McCalls, People, US, Time and Prevention magazines.....free!! I only take the magazines I know I will read that week, and then either give them to my mom, or bring in to the lunch room at work. It is a cool way to recycle too.

I guess it does not take much to get me excited now, but snuggling in bed with a new magazine(free) is a nice way to end a crazy day. I know.

I just wanted to encourage newbies out there looking to stretch their , to check out their library, it's hours, and maybe you can cut back on a few monthly bills AND still get your entertainment in too without feeling deprived!

I use the library a lot. I'm lucky that I drive right by a good branch on my way to work, so I can leave the house a few minutes early and make a quick stop. And they've been really good about interlibrary loan as well. I try not to use it a lot, because I don't know what their costs may be (it's free to the patron), but if it's something I really want to read, I will.

Also, I've given them a lot of books. If you have any to pass on, ask them if they take donations. Some probably go into book sales, but I've seen some of mine end up in the circulating collection, which is great. I'm glad others are getting to enjoy them when I'm finished with them.

We love our library! We go a couple of times a week. In the summer we went every other day. Now with school, only on the weekends.

We absolutely love our library, it is awesome! They get a huge collection of magazines and you can pretty much reserve any book and get it within days. They also have the latest dvds and an amazing children's section which DS already loves.

I am such a reader and love libraries too. But, I also love the used-bookstore up north at our cabin, where they sell 'em for 1-2 $, because we don't get into town as often to return books. With this store, we are making a collection for our bookshelf there.

AND--it's right next door to my favorite yarn/quilting/craft shop!

I love my library. We can order books online through them and then drive through and pick them up! They also have great movies, mags and stuff. I save so much money using the library- we go every week!

We love our library, too! It's a small library (would almost fit in our family room) in a small village of 400 people, but it's wonderful! They have some amazing vintage books plus do a great job of getting current books. They have puzzles, games, movies, books on tape, sewing patterns, and cake pans! I'd never been to a library that would check out cake pans...LOL! My kids love to check those out for baking.

We used to live in Omaha, which has a wonderful, huge library system. I actually prefer our small town version.

We just joined our local library and I can't wait to just jump in and use all the resources. With school in we'll be going on the weekends, but I'm excited.

I love, love, love our library! The city just built a new library on our side of town....it's so close that we ride our bikes there when the weather permits.

I'm always putting in requests for new books that come out...right now I have 10 on hold (sure hope they don't all come in at the same time).

Kids like coming there with me, when they are done picking out books, they have computers in the childrens area, where they can hop on the computer to play games. There is always a librarian walking around checking to see what sites the kids are using, I guess to make sure they are kid-friendly etc....

I can spend hours there. There is nothing better than walking down the aisles and smelling all those books

Dh and I absolutely love our library! Awesome selection of books (and interlibrary loans), friendly staff, loads of DVD/VHS to choose from...audio tapes, language courses, magazines...and a free books area on the way out! It's on my way to work (only a 1/2 mile away) so I tend to go on my lunch hour...great way to spend it!

I am so in love with our local library its kinda sad lol. I am lucky enough to be close enuf to the Carnegie Library of Pgh system so I have my pick of between about 45 libraries all from the comfort of my own home! I currently have 26 books checked out and I need to stop and pick up 12 more that are waiting for me today after work. And thats a SMALLER than usual number for me! I probably read 3 to 7 books a week depending on the type of material I am reading. I just love almost anything historical, or non-fiction, or about parenting or cookbooks or ...oh heck I just really really love books and libraries are the ONLY way to go!

A new public library is being built right across the street from the school where I work!! Oh, I am thrilled. I've seen the plans for it and it will be great---it is even going to have a "gentlemen's reading room" with big comfy chairs at the request of the local AARP chapter.

Our library is great! It's only about a mile away from our house and was built a couple of years ago. It's also connected to a nature park with hiking and biking trails and a playground for the kids. We go at least once a week.
