Feeling old!
This is what dd asked me last night.
DD: Mommy, back in the old days(she was born in 2000), did you really press 0 on the phone, and a lady would answer?
Me: Yes, she was called the operator, and helped you make phone calls or gave you phone numbers.
DD: Wow, the 19's were really wierd!
She didn't believe me at first, and had to ask daddy if he knew about it.

Funny, I try to tell DS I am old (I'll be 35 in a couple of weeks), but he tells me I'm not.... I sure feel it though.

My oldest dd, when she was about 7, was watching the Flintstones one day and asked me if people really used to play CD's with a bird. Not only did I have to explain what records were, but also explain a record player and how it worked like the bird on the Flintstones

Lol! Too funny ladies!
Jack(58) was talking to Nicole (22)yesterday about how things were in the olden days, I (46)was the one who rolled my eyes, lol. "Dress code, nowadays you don't have a dresscode...when I went to school boys couldn't wear jeans, tshirts or sneakers...Girls had to wear dresses or skirts..."~*Darlene*~

My daughters favorite expression is "back in the day". My son is bad to say things like back "Well back when you were little and they didn't have cars". However I wouldn't go back for nothing.

Ds every now and then comes up with something. They find it hard to believe that computers were rare in homes. That we didn't have them at school at all. Dh didn't, I did. That any electronic games we had played one game, usually one that worked your memory. Cartoons were saturday mornings, Sunday sometimes with Disney and few specials around holidays, NOT all day. We didn't have a microwave until mid 80's. Nor a vcr or video recorder, Nothing digital was available to the common people, so digital cameras, videos. Cell phones where just starting and were bigger than our cordless.
In truth, it doesn't make me feel old as every year now there's something new. I feel a little left behind trying to keep current, but not old. I feel old cause of gravity dealing with my body parts, old because of wrinkles showing up, lol.
He does get smart and ask if we had power..lol. I tell him yes, but your grandparents didn't.

One day she even said that we didn't have cars and had to ride horses! Then asked me how I got around since I'm afraid of horses.
She can't believe that we only had 3 channels. I told her we got 2, 4, and 7. Sometimes if the weather was right, we got channel 3 (pbs). She can't even comprehend us not having computers.

Things change fast don't they? My kids can't believe there were no ATMs, debit cards, computers, cable, a/c in cars and that most stores closed on Sundays. My son's favorite saying is "Well, mom, that was back in the day..."

My sons are in their early 20's now, but when they little, they asked me if there were CARS when I was a kid.

So, when we were out driving once, we passed a car from the 50's and I told them THAT'S what cars looked like when I was little. Then I looked HARD at that car, and realized how old I really must BE.
Wow.

I saw a lot of technology changes while still young: the start of VCRs, CDs, digital everything, home computers, arcade games, cell phones, microwaves, etc. So I get the concept of "the old way" vs. "the new way", and I'm not surprised by kids' comments.
My little niece and nephew are in the middle of some technology changes themselves, and don't always understand that some things are the new way, and some are the old way. Like cameras - they have trouble comprehending that there are some cameras that don't show the picture you just took on the back of the camera for viewing. Or televisions where you can't just play back shows any time you want; you have to arrange to record them first.

I know that i feel old when my oldest thinks me and hubby going to the drive in is old. Instead of theatres. We still have one on the Island but its too far away and only for special trips.

My 9 year old sometimes says stuff like this. We were fortunate though, we had a computer in our house since I was in elementary school (though it may have been a commodore 64 at the beginning). My dad was really into computers and even used the internet before the internet was what it is today. We had cable tv around the time i was ffive or six. (I'm 30). But it really is amazing how much technology has changed. I remember getting my first cd in junior high and when they stopped making records - just tapes and cds. Microwave ovens used to be really big and bulky! It's crazy how much everything really has changed since I graduated high school 12 years ago.

Wow...looks like quite a few of us are 30!
We had a computer in our house from the time I was about 6? Started out as an Apple II then Apple III...then came the Commodore 64. I can remember being 12 and being thrilled with the original nintendo! hahahaKace - married to Dh 12 years
