I got seriously ticked off today
Me, DS and my mom went to CostCo today. When we were parking, I saw this lady putting flyers to peoples car windows. I figured she was maybe promoting something and forgot about it even before I had a chance to park. So we found a spot and the second I opened the car door, this lady runs to me, gives me one of her flyers and starts talking in a very loud voice about what her cause was all about. I felt so threatened (sp?) since I had my son in the car with me. She goes on and on about scriptures etc. and is literally crouching like an inch away from me, while I'm still sitting in the car with my seat belt buckled. How dare she?? She doesn't introduce herself, doesn't even ASK if I'm interested in her little speech and doesn't take the hint when I turn away from her. I'm usually very calm but this was the first time I've ever wanted to slap anyone across the face because of forcing their ideas at me. Grrrr!!
Sorry, I just had to vent. I have the paper still in the car, didn't even look what church/movement she represented. What an idiot!!

I hope you reported it to management. The store would surely not be at all happy that this was happening to their customers.

Next time give them the "talk to the hand" signal & blare the car horn & if that doesn't work, yell "Back Off!" loudly & sternly in their face.
I agree, contact management & the group in question and let them know how you were harassed, call the police if you feel so inclined.~*Darlene*~

that would have been one of the few instances i would have really gone off on someone. hey lady, could ya back off so i can get out of my car. and i already have my own faith and church so keep your darn paper and go away.
i've had to deal with some pushy folks just while standing on my porch and i won't put up with that kind of pushy crap anywhere anymore. i've been told i was rude, but after i nicely say no thank you i'm not interested and they still get pushy or argumentitive, i'm no longer nice.
since you are already home, i'd call and tell them what happened. even if she's left for teh day, they can chase her off the next time she shows up since most businesses do not allow any form of soliciting.wife to carl

I'm glad you stayed in the car and stayed calm!! I absolutely hate (I don't use that word every day) when people touch my car to put a flier on it. Who gave them permission to touch my car? And who gave her permission to approach you??!!

If I see someone putting fliers on cars in a parking lot, I normally inform the manager.Robbin

Our Wal Mart here in terrible about having people setting their tables up right ourside the door collecting money for one cause or the other. I have no problem donating to organizations that I feel are worthy. I just don't like them hounding everytime you want in or out the door. Sometimes I think some of them are individuals looking for a handout.
I'm thinking about saying something to the manager about it. It's not really scarey, just annoying.

I would tell the mgmt. too. Usually they will run people out of the parking lot for stuff like that...

I dont want people approching me or coming to my house to hawk their religion. If I am interested then I would join a church. It should be against the law in my opinion. Noone has the right to invade my space or spoil the peace and enjoyment of my home

Ugh, not a fun start to shopping, but you were nicer than I'd have been! I do try to be polite and tell people "I already have charities of my choice/religion of my choice" and turn away, but her accosting me in the car would have been to much!
I agree, call the store and I'm sure that there are still employees cars with the flyers on them out there, so they could figure out who it is.

This is what I typed up to place on my dash for some of the "flier fleas" that ignored my 3x5 card that said "no ads please"...
ANY ADVERTISING POSTED ON THIS CAR INDICATES THE DESIRE OF THAT BUSINESS TO ENGAGE IN AN ADVERTISING CONTRACT.
CURRENT RATES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
$150.00 PER DAY
(IF IT IS PLACED ON MY CAR…YOU HAVE BOUGHT SERVICES FOR THE DAY !!)
PHOTOS WILL BE TAKEN OF THIS STATEMENT AND YOUR AD. PAYMENT IS DUE WHEN I WALK IN YOUR DOOR. NON-PAYMENT WILL RESULT IN UNPLEASANT MEDIA ATTENTION AND LEGAL RECOURSE IF NECESSARY.
Probably not enforceable..but I hope it gives them pause for thought.

Hehehehe I wonder how many of those people actually bother to look into the cars or if they are just in a plain hurry to slap a flyer on there.
I've been harassed at Home Depot once and I told the person to step away from my vehicle. When he didn't - I jumped back in the car and hit the panic button. BOY! Did he sure run!
I went inside to complain to store management/security. I was NOT a happy camper. Haven't seen him there since.
At Walmart in a shady area of town, my friend and I had to stop for something and we grabbed some McDonalds on our way out for dinner - bad I know!
We were sitting there eating with the windows open, talking and minding our own biz when I noticed someone climbing up the side of a pick up truck a two rows away. I pointed it out to my friend. By the time the guy got to our row, he climbed up the truck to be able to reach the windshield. Im talking holding onto the mirror as a handle and actually stepping up on the running boards. Granted, my friends truck's suspension had been raised for mudding. LOL
My friend had put his seat down flat and laid there and waited. The poor guy climbed up saw me and realized he shouldnt be hanging off the side of someone else's vehicle. I used the digi cam to take his photo - flash and all and then hit the panic on the keychain as my friend jumped up SCREAMING at the tops of his lungs right into this poor guys face. "STOP!!! TRESSPASSING!!!! HELP!! TRESPASSER!! HELP!! STOP!!!"
EVERYONE around us stopped and stared. This poor guy LEAPED off the truck about 3 parking spots back and ran the opposite way.
I know from one perspective this is really mean and unnecessary. From another viewpoint - bad enough you're tresspassing on Walmarts property to solicit your crappy biz but to CLIMB UP onto soemeones car to put a flyer onto the window?? Thats a bit much. I think he deserves what he got. He should be lucky we didnt leave a rather large protective dog in the car with the windows wide open. I can understand that hes prob trying to earn a living but why didnt he use common sense here? Trucks really big, just skip this one vehicle. C'mon now!! One unplaced flyer isnt going to hurt you. I have never cried so hard from laughing in my life - tears and all! The pic is TOO funny but I dont have it anymore. Wish I did so I could share it.
That was when I was younger - the good old days!
Nowdays if I see someone approaching me, I get back into the car and drive off to another parking spot or wait until they leave. They tend not to put anything ON your window when you're still in the car.

I hate when people do crap like that, too!! I would've been yelling at them!
I would call management there...and then I would call the place that she represents and tell them.
Sorry you had to go thru that!

Maybe I'm just lacking in patience, but the minute someone lays a hand on me or my vehicle, or prevents me from entering or exiting at will, my big loud operatic voice comes into play. There are advantages to having a high soprano range. I can scream loud enough and high enough that I honestly might do some temporary damage to their eardrums, but they never stick around very long. I'm rarely mean, but I really do NOT like being acosted in that manner, and smiled when one woman who grabbed my sleeve to try to get me to pay attention to here sales-pitch burst out in tears and fled the parking lot.

I would have been very intimidated and afraid for my kids in the car, if someone came up really close like that right in my face. How many kidnappings and car-jackings have taken place JUST like that scenario? It would have freaked me out.
Shorty--
LOVED the story of you screaming at that guy! I wish I could have seen his face.
