glad to be here
Hi
I am glad to be here. I am learning so much.
My life is a sine curve of rich, not rich, rich, not rich. right now we are in the bottom of the cycle.
childhood -- early childhood was relatively frugal, teenage years my parents were well off. so I have learned how to function on both sides of the issue.
college years, early twenties, put self through college with help of financial aid, work, and grants. I was lucky to get through university without loans, so didn't have that monkey on my back. did the usual melted cheese on potatoes routine that most college kids go through.
early twenties - alcoholism, codependency, and compulsive debting ruined my life. went for good help, got it, and got my spirit, life and finances turned around. i attend only al anon now, its the best general life help for everyday issues that i know.
married to a man who eventually made a lot of money. we had an abundant life for about twelve years.
presently, in mid forties, hubby has made a career change- he was miserable in his former career. we are living on my teacher salary/benefits and what money he can bring in as a furniture maker. so far, so good. God has sent him a big chippendale table to make for a rich lady. He has gotten a job with a furniture manufacturer part time.
i have been visiting this site and others to relearn frugal tips. I had gotten lax and spoiled - say, by a housekeeper and other luxuries, and am here to tighten up money issues.
as a latter day saint (mormon), and later, as a big dave ramsay fan, i can say there is real truth in having an emergency fund, the house paid off, and a years worth of food/supplies in the storage room. good advice- yay LDS church! yay dave ramsay! it works!
My 12 step recovery kicks in: affirmations for today
I create abundance for me and my husband.
I am wise.
I prevent problems before they arise.
I take good care of my family.
I take good care of my possessions.
I am creative and resourceful.
I have sufficient for my needs.
I trust in the plan that our higher power has for us.
I plan ahead.
I am prepared for emergencies. (mormon and dave ramsay)
I walk in faith.
thank you all.Last edited by ladykemma2; 09-03-2007 at 02:06 PM.

Welcome to Frugal Village. It's nice to see another LDS member here.
However, I have to say...I'm really disappointed in the way you responded to momto6 in a thread in the Debt Reduction & Money Management forum. We aren't taught to act like that.
I know sometimes it's hard to understand why people make the choices they do, but it's not our job to make them feel awful about it. I'm not trying to chastise you, I just felt the need to say something after reading that you were of the same faith as I. There are so few of us in the world, let's make a good, compassionate impact!
That being said, you seem like an intelligent, open-minded person who looks at things from many angles, and I'm excited to get to know you better.
