Just a quick update on me...
Because I know I haven't been around much for the last two weeks..
1. My car is gone. I had a 1997 Nissan Sentra - the starter went on it. Thankfully we were able to borrow my in-law's car until we could get it to the shop. We were quoted $400 (high, I know, but my normal shop was booked out another week and we couldn't wait) and we decided that since it also needed a new exhaust and fuel vapor recovery system (which we knew, just hadn't gotten around to fixing) and the crankshaft oil had leaked all over the place and we needed new belts at the minimum (this we didn't know - but explains why the A/C died this summer) - we decided just to get rid of it, since it was up for inspection in Nov. I\We got yet another 04 Honda Civic with 36K miles on it for $13,500 - the only differences between "my" car and "DH's" car right now are that mine is black and has a spoiler, and DH's is silver. New car payment is $250.
2. DH lost his job last Wednesday. We weren't completely surprised, but it's still a blow to our finances. He got a 4 week severance package and he can carry the insurance for the 4 weeks at the same rate we're currently paying. After that he's eligible for unemployment and I'll have to carry the health insurance where I work.
So lately I've just been trying to scramble with lots of paperwork - it's kind of funny, DH pays the bills and balances the checkbook, but I'm the one who handles medical insurance, taxes, car registrations and insurance changes, and all of the other financial paperwork stuff. And boy, is there a lot of it!Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

Sara, sorry about the car and especially DH's job. It's times like these that sure make you really glad that you are a wise spender.
Hopefully, your DH will have a new and better job soon.

When it rains, it pours, doesn't it?
I really hope to read soon that hubby has a new job that he is very happy with. He is lucky that you have such a good head on your shoulders. It is hard but I am sure you can keep things afloat for the short time until he is employed again!
Sorry about the old car but congrats on the new one! Civics are awesome and they drive FOREVER!

sara, so sorry to hear about your troubles! i sympathize with you husband job hunting (ive been in that position several times in the past 5yrs) i wish him good luck with it and to you too on keeping everything going.
i just had a new starter put in my car not too long ago and it cost $300. my a/c has went out too even after being recharged 2x. it lasted a couple of weeks each time and didn't put out that cold of air so im curious as to hearing more about what was wrong with your a/c if you know. im afraid to take it in that it will be a huge bill to fix it.

So sorry about your Dh and his job!! Just a question though, since your DH lost his job aren't you worried about a new car payment? I woould be freaking out unless you were prepared for this type of situation. Good luck and keep us updated!! Another question, my DD test drove a brand new civic yesterday, and she didn't like the rough ride, although gas mileage 30miles to the gallon. this car had 159 miles on it. She drives a Pontiac Bonnelville right now and it ride nice. Do you have any opinions on this civic and the ride quality, etc??
