moving but a problem...
So we're moving at the end of the month but we're having issues with the bug situation. We have ants and cockroaches in our current place. We are getting rid of all of our furniture but the items that we know do not have them are what we are concerned about. We have to start packing and can't really pack the day of, so how do we avoid the bugs hiding in the boxes and us taking them with us??? I really have no idea what to do...

Does the place that you are moving to have a storage area/garage/carport? The only thing that I can think of would be to store them outside when you move and unpack them outside.
Sorry, I know that is not a lot of help. Good luck!!Robbin

Will you be renting a uhaul or something like that when you move? If you are don't put any food in the truck, after it is load with all your stuff, set off a couple of bug bombs, then close the door.

I agree with justpeachy also spray the boxes before you put stuff in them.

I agree, I would spray the boxes, then pack them.

could you line the boxes with doubled up trash bags then seal the bags then the boxes? the only other thing i could thing of was clear plastic bins and seal those with tape, but that will get expensive in a hurry.

The ants are easy. Go buy a box of instant grits and sprinkle them around where the ants are. They will take them back to the queen and when she eats them and drinks water then they will swell up inside and kill her. The rest of the colony can't live without her.
I don't know if this works on roaches... I doubt it... it seems like they can survive anything. You could get one of those portable storage trailers, the kind they drop off, you fill and then they take to the new place. Make sure each box is sprayed and bug free then take it immediately outside to the storage crate. Also be sure to open all your electronics if you can... for some reason roaches are attracted to the magnetic fields in them and will hang out inside them in numbers. Don't spray them inside the device... chase them out with some canned air and then spray them. This will also clean the dust out of the equipment and help prevent damage from overheating.

This is for after the move. . .you got good advice about preparing to move.
Boric acid powder is great for getting rid of roaches. You can buy it at Walmart. When you move into your new place. . .sprinkle boric acid behind the fridge, stove, etc. Start saving up the plastic tops of cola bottles now. Rinse them out and let them dry. Put some boric acid in them and place in your cabinets in the back where fingers won't get into them. Put them everywhere in the house. Make sure that pets and children won't get into it.
If you should have roaches, (newly transplanted or residents) it will get rid of them within 1-2 months. Refresh each boric acid station 2x a year and you should never have another roach problem again.
