    Default Where Were You...

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9PwWkV4HQ4"]YouTube- Alan Jackson - Where Were You (Live Video)[/ame]

Been thinking about the words of this song. It's been six years -- SIX YEARS -- since the day that hate killed hundreds, thousands of people.

Wives whose husbands will never come home, children whose grandparents will never be there to see them graduate, brothers who lost their best friends and sisters, brave police officers and firefighters who sacrificed themselves to help those who just might possibly be alive... It makes me both proud and sad, grateful and angry, cry and sing.

So on this day, I hope you all remember the good things you have in your lives, because as hard as it is for us all, with all our problems out there, someone out there has so much hate in their hearts that they are willing to do something like this, and is still willing to do this, just as bad, or even worse, somewhere in this world.

So where were you? What were you doing on 9/11/2001?

I was working at a dollar store. I had a good friend who was very anti-American and he came in and celebrated the fact that "someone blew up the World Trade Center".

Later that day, during my lunch break, I went into an electronic store to see what was going on, and I watched as that second plane sailed right through that building, and watched as it crashed down on the streets.

I'd never felt my whole body go numb before. I pray to God I never have to again. But it happens again every time I see that clip of footage.

I don't associate with that "friend" anymore.

I was seeing a patient and a thirty minute visit turned into close to a two hour one while I sat there and watched what was going on. She lived in a care home and the owner of the home, a couple of residents and I just sat there speechless and near tears. What a horrible day for our country.

I was rollerblading in my neighborhood after the kids got on the bus. One of my neighbors ran out of the house because she saw me...she shared the horrible news.

We sat in her living room, glued to the t.v. and in disbelief.

The tragedy is unsurmountable for many...

Hubby and I were just finishing packing the truck for a trip to MO for the miniature horse nationals to visit and vacation, I turned on the computer for one last email check and saw the news and was just stunned.

We hooked up the TV in the upstairs bedroom so we could get a channel and just watched stunned.

We stayed home then, did not want to be away from the farm for ANY reason, also worked out plans and stockpiled, bought a generator and settled in for a long and numbing week.

Our family was also VERY concerned, we could not find one of my older brothers at the moment, just the day before he'd been in the offices that were hit in the first tower, a branch of the law firm he's with is there, he lost many friends that day.

I've spent part of the day quietly working here on the farm, being thankful for this great country we live in, and thinking of all those lost.

I was getting ready for work. That is when I was a preschool teacher, I would leave for work around 8AM. DH works nights and was just comming in from work around the time I was leaving and tells me to turn on the news because he heard something on the radio about a plane. So we turn on the news and are watching and then that is when the second plane hit.

I had to go to work, so I left. Most of the parents that were dropping off their children had no clue what had happened. Some parents decided to go back home with their children.

I listened to the radio all day long and called DH at home. He was watching the news and would call up at work to tell us what was going on. It was a terrible day.

I was at school. I went to a small all-girls alternative highschool with only 20 students and 5 faculty members. We all just gathered into one classroom and watched the news together. Some were crying, and some were silent. I never knew anyone that was affected by the tragedy, but it was a tragedy nonetheless. I can't believe it's already been 6 years.

I was working as a ticket agent for ATA in Chicago. We were terrified especially after the airport was evacuated due to a bomb threat. My husband works for Delta and they were in a panic because they could not make radio contact with all of the flights in the air.

I was at work (elementary school teacher) and we were told not to turn on the TVs to avoid upsetting the kids. So the media specialist turned on a TV in a back room of the library and all of us teachers took turns going in to watch.

    We were stunned, angry, disbelieving.

6 years---it is still so fresh in my memory.

I had just taken my son to school and was watching the Today show. 9/11 is my birthday, so it was quite a surreal day. I was mourning for all who had lost their lives and scares for whatever it meant for us in general. Yet, my son was five and singing Happy Birthday to me..... Just a very surreal day.

    Where was I...

I was at home... I was getting ready to fly myself to a town about 3 hours away (small plane, private pilot). Had I left just a while earlier I would have been in the air...would have gotten the "all planes must land now" over the radio...and would have had to put down on some gravel strip in the middle of nowhere. I'm thankful I didn't head out...that would have been a miserable way to spend those several days before they allowed air travel again. Such a sad and scary day.

Where was I, at home with y2dks getting ready to take them to the aquarium, seen this on the news and could not go after that.
It was and still such a sad day we all went through. Something, ,we cannot forget but may at times want to forget it.
In ways though, it helped me, since then, I have missed maybe 10 Sundays @ church outside of being in the hospital and at home before I relearned to walk, etc.

I was teaching classes, it was my second week teaching a 6th grade classroom my first and last year as a teacher. I remember not seeing any tv coverage until I came home from work at 3pm. I called my mom on my lunch break to find out what had happend. All I knew by 12pm was that planes hit the towers and we were under attack!!

We were on our way to orientation for Bible school. Every break we got, we went out to the car and sat listening to the radio. At one point an instructor got up and announced to the crowd that the 2nd tower had just collapsed. It was a sobering day. My sister visited the towers the day before, I'm so glad she didn't go that morning.

JSKell911, its my mom's brithday as well. It was a mixture of sorrow, hapiness and fear for us too.
