    Default I'm sad today.....

We have a neighbor across the street from us at our mountain home. He passed on Sunday while out on his deck feeding the racoons. We weren't there and we are closest to him in proximity. He was 72 years old, lived frugally, and had a pretty valuable piece of property in another county. The coroner contacted a few of us to ask whether we knew how to contact his relatives. You know, I knew the man...but I didn't know the man. I only knew that the piece of proerty that he owned in the other county was a piece that had been in the family and that he did have a sister who had children. The coroners office was coming up with dead ends where ever they turned. I only wished I would have taken the time to ask more personal questions, to find out who he really was. I knew bits and pieces but nothing substantial as I didn't want to pry. We had him for dinner occasionally and we knew that he was failing and yet we didn't ask the important things. So now he has relatives that do not even know that he is gone..... we will miss him......

There are ways they find people. They can look up records for all the children his mother had, and then find them like that. They can look at his will and find out from that.

    I'm sorry for your loss.

Aww, I'm sorry but glad you let him in to touch your life. I'm sure your friendship meant alot to him. Not to be wierd but how nice he went doing something he enjoyed.

Awww...that is sad. I wish there was some sort of "adopt-a-grandparent" kind of program in cities...I'm sure the older people who don't have family nearby would love the company...and all the rest of us could sure learn a lot from them! I'd enjoy talking to someone who grew up in the Depression Era.

Sorry to hear of your loss. That was really nice of you to let him be a part of your family, I'm sure that meant more to him that you may ever know.

I'm sure they will find his kin soon through county records.

Coroners office called today. I tired to lead them to family by mentioning he had the other property which had been held by his mother prior to him. They are coming up with dead ends.....scary.... I figured that they would have access to so many avenues to find his relatives but it's not as easy as you would think. If only one of us had asked....
