    Default Dh Strike update

Dh checked the unemployment website this morning and we finally have money coming!! YEAH!!! It said it was processed so we should have it direct deposited today or tomorrow I figure. I can't wait. Living on the striker's bonus of $300 a week has been tough. And what's nice is they gave him retro back to the 15th because of the legislation that NY State passed. (They concluded that they qualify for it because the comp hired temporary - and now permanent - replacement workers) So he's getting over $1400 (retro plus last week's pay). We need to get a stroller, some of it is going on cc's and the rest is going in bank.

Dh has his app into a place where he used to work (non-union) and he is hoping he can get in there. Benefits are similar and pay is similar, plus he LOVED working there. He got layed off about 5 years ago from there and they tried to call him back when he started this job actually. So that would be great! No matter what, in January, he is going to start taking classes again. He wants to finish his associates in chem tech. They get paid really well and there's several comps locally who are in need of them.

One good thing about this whole strike thing - we've really learned how to budget and not spend money. We were spending $60 for food and h&b, including diapers and stuff. Though this may go up a little, especially with new baby in November, I'm going to still try to keep it under $80 a week. I have been putting $10 a week on store gift cards (walmart and target) so we can use those for diapers and formula for new baby.

As for negotiations, they had a talk the other day and they actually talked for several hours face to face. So, I see that as being a positive step in the right direction. Actually, now that he's also getting unemployment I would like them to keep negotiating until the end of November. That way Dh can spend extra time with me and the new baby and get paid for it! A little selfishness on my part! LOL. It won't happen though. He'll probably end up going back to work the week the baby is born, so then he can't even take family leave (because we can't hand in the papers right now and they need to be in at least 2 weeks prior) - just one week vacation. But oh well. At least he will be back to work!! And things can start to get back to normal again!!

Wow. I live on a little over $300 a week, but I'm just one person.

Glad it all worked out! Also glad you found out you COULD live more frugally if you had to. So the experience was a learning one for you, and that's good.

Hope he gets the new job!
