I hate Wal-Mart!
It is the most selfish place I've ever seen! I haven't returned anything to Wal-Mart in years, mostly because I don't shop there much. When I worked there, years ago, the policy was that if you didn't have a receipt, you got a gift card. Well, that has changed! Now you have to not only EXCHANGE the thing you are returning, you have to exchange it for the SAME TYPE OF ITEM, at approximately THE SAME PRICE OR OVER.
I returned a package of corn dogs that tasted spoiled. So in order to get credit for them, I had to buy the ONLY other brand they had at a comparable price, which was .96 more than the ones I got.
So to get a refund, I had to fork out .96 to them!!! I'm gonna call the store manager Monday and complain. I'm soooooooo angry! I should NOT be forced to buy more corndogs from them when I didn't want them! I didn't think that I should just take them back tomorrow when I go pick up my prescription, and get a refund, but I'm sure it would show up that it was a refund previously, and then they wouldn't take it back.
I HATE THEM SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They made you do this when the corn dogs tasted spoiled? Yes, definitely call the store manager, and advise him/her that you should not have to do this - for one, it's not good customer service at all, but secondly, and the most important one, why the hell are they putting you through these hoops when the corn dogs might be rancid?? Do they not care about the health of their customers? Huge liability issues if people got sick, when someone (you) had already told them about the possibility of them being spoiled. Take this up with them - ask them what's more important - these hoops they are making you jump through or the safety of their customers. Keep us posted as to what gets done - I'm curious!!

Well, I already wrote to corporate, but I know that will get me nowhere. I'm still going to call the manager, maybe even check if he's in tomorrow when I pick up my prescription.
I'm telling you, at Publix, when someone brings something back spoiled, we IMMEDIATELY tell the department manager and he goes and checks the other product.
The thing is, it's not like the Walton's cannot afford to give someone a $4.98 gift card instead. You still have to spend the money at the store.
I was going to use the gift card toward my prescription. Phooey!

I am completely fed up with Walmart also.
A few weeks ago we bought 16 12 packs of Soda for the cancer benefit.
They saw us leave the checkout and told us they had to see our ID.
For soda and i had my receipt in my hand. I told them no way .
Then yesterday was my very last time in their losey store. The prices are sky high and thye are snotty.
I'll do better with coupons at Price Chopper and HannafordsTo be One With The Universe In Spirit, Mind and Body
BEF $ 0/ $1000

OMG!!! I can't believe that! If their customer service people would just SMILE a little, it would be nice. We have to smile at every customer, and try to speak to as many as we can. The strange thing is, that they teach you when you work there to speak to everyone, but you learn quickly that if you do, you'll never get your work done, and they're so understaffed that you get in trouble for not getting your work done.
It's a cruddy place to shop, and even worse place to work. They already have had their earnings and sales drop. I wonder how long it will be before they crash and burn? What will replace them?

I think I'd ask if they wanted to take the hotdogs back or would they rather I deliver them to the state health inspector for evaluation... Rumor has it that they often do not ship and store meats and cheeses at an appropriate temperature and have even been known to cover the "sell-by" date so that they can sell things that are too old. I refuse to buy perishables from them. Ever.

Even store brand foods I don't return. I'll email and complain. I had a nasty oily tasting Coke once so I called and they got the product number and the store where I bought them. They thanked me and sent me free coupons for a couple of six packs. Kroger brand mixed frozen veggies were 50%+ lima beans which in moderation are ok but this was way too much. I emailed Kroger corporate and heard within a few days a word of thanks and again got free coupons for Kroger brand products (I did NOT buy their frozen veggies again
).
The peons at the bottom are crabby from dealing with customers all day because Walmart pays them crap and treats them like crap. So they sell the crap and customers' complain about the crap and they get sick of the crap. The head people need to hear and check out the other stock numbers to make sure everything is being done right. Hold on to the corn dogs until you get a satisfactory reply next time. Or else start telling and showing everyone the nasty corn dogs. Although it's Walmart. I wouldn't expect anything from them ever.

I'm surprised. Our Walmarts do refunds, no questions asked if you have the receipt. I don't like returning things at all, but I don't hesitate to do it at Walmart, because it is so easy. I've never even been asked why.

I'm with you Donna...I've never had a problem returning items w/a receipt, no questions asked.
I also have not had the experience of dealing w/crabby people at Wal-Mart. Our store here I think is pretty friendly. If I need help, I can always find someone and they are more than accomodating and always have a smile.
But I would definately stick to your guns...don't give up."We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen; For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

I don't have a problem with Walmart in returning something that didn't meet my expecations but I will say that after reviewing our budget and making a menu I will be shopping at our little independently owned mom&pop grocery in our little town.
To go to the Big W costs me more money in the long run because a) it's farther away, 2) I end up buying things "just because we're here", c) trying something new that I never knew I needed and probably don't need anyway 4) I want to keep my little grocery store in town open--or at least help it stay open and e) we don't have a city sales tax in my little town so I don't pay as much for food as I do in the big town where Big W is.

I've never had trouble returning things.
I recently returned something that was 3-4 months old. (I didn't know I'd had it that long) She told me they normally don't do refunds that old, but did it anyway.
Without a receipt, I always get a gift card. No questions asked.

I wonder if it's the part of the country you are in? I say this only because, I moved to Florida from Michigan a year ago..In Michigan, I NEVER, EVER had an issue with customer service..I get down here WOW what a different story..I don't think I have had but one positive customer service experience ANYWHERE in this state (mind you, I am a very easy going kinda gal
) I keep telling myself it's cause I don't have a "southern" accent, or it's just my perception of the situation, but it drives me UTTERLY INSANE
I only shop at WM when I have a gift card, but I am seriously thinking of "regifting" the ones I have to save myself the agony of possibly having to return(which happens more often than not, it seems) something I really could have lived without anyways..lol
Sorry just had to vent..HORRIBLE customer service is a MAJOR pet peeve of mine.
P.S. Not trying to offend anyone from Florida
