Hey I have learned it is not homework for the kids, it is for the adults. It seems that we spend probably more time working on it, than they actually do it at school. My Son is always complaining.

I think it is just "busy work." I understand studying for test at home, but I hate all the homework too and I work at the school district. LOL! I wonder if I will change after I finish up my degree.

Mine don't have much "real" homework. A lot of what they bring home (the younger ones anyway) is stuff to do with the parents. Ds6 brought home a card game to play to help him with number comparing. Ds9 brought home an activity to do with coins (money).

Even my older two, who are in 10 & 8th grade, rarely have homework to bring home.

Well, if any of you have kids in the "advanced" classes, you know how much they pile on those kids! I actually got a bunch of the parents together and we first went to the teacher, then the principal to complain. When that didn't help, we went to the school board meeting and raised a ruckus! They were giving my 12 year old son like 4 hours of homework every night. Every week there was some new project that had to be done, and these weren't CHEAP projects, either!

When we presented him with the hundreds of pages of stuff our children had done in just the last month, they told the school that these were smart children, and didn't need that much homework, and to stick to the policy of 30 minutes three times a week for each class. One woman actually brought a video of her child studying in front of a clock after dinner. It lasted for three hours, and then the tape ran out.

My dd7 just comes home w/daily reading she needs to complete and spelling words.

ds13 has probably 1/2 an hr each night. It's mostly math homework, and I'm absolutely of no help what so ever! Fortunately, he's a smart kid and doesn't require a lot of help w/it. But what I hate....is that he is procrastinator when it comes to getting it done....huge pet peeve of mine!!

Our boards policy is 10 minutes per night for each grade (grade 6 gets 6X10minutes =60 minutes per night).

My ds has homework every night and he's in kinder! It makes me mad. He's so tired when he gets home because they have a full day with no nap and so homework time is a headache. He hates it already.

My kids whine and cry and are just horrible about it, and I don't really blame them. After 8 hours in school, aside from tests, do they really need to sit at home for hours and do homework?

Of course if you throw in the 60 minutes of whining, the actual homework time is only 30 minutes or so. I can't convince them of this fact, of course - so then they moan and groan over their "hour and a half" of homework.
