Am going to be another statistic-found out am getting laid off from my job :(
I am trying not to freak out. They called us into a meeting and announced in 6 months the office would close. We had no idea.We do have 6 months, they will be meeting with us shortly to fill us in on severance packages, etc....and if you stick it out the 6 months, you get the package and some incentive $$.
The thing is we have had several openings they have not filled, so things have been VERY stressful due to the lack of staffing. The idea of continuing at this pace (worse) for 6 MORE months with the knowledge I will no longer have a career for this company , well.....where is my motivation?? I am physically ill at the thought. I know other people have been in this position and been through this
before and came through OK. Right?
FYI, I am single so only have myself to depend on and had planned on working for many more years. I have already placed calls to colleagues in my field and they will let me know of any positions so who knows?? I am mentally going through my budget and thinking of even MORE places to cut back if needed. Fortunately I already bought a good amount of Xmas gifts and had $$ saved for the rest.
I work for a large corporation and it saddens me that we all work our butts off and it is never enough $$ for the bottom line, so they are "streamlining" and closing offices.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Well my only advice is:
Save every dime you can, let close friends and family know whats going on so that they get it when you don't do your normal X-mas stuff.......
So sorry I know what its like.

Aw gee, that really stinks! I'm sorry to hear it.
DH and I have both been laid off (at separate times) and it's never a pleasant feeling. It's even worse when you've worked your azz off for your employer and the thanks is a "Hit the road".
I hope your friends and colleagues are able to help you find a fabulous job! I wish you the best of luck.Wife to Kenneth

I'm sorry that this is happening. I've been in your situation before, so I know how you feel. Keep your feelers out for other positions and keep the savings up. Sending positive

I am so sorry that you are going through this.
I just found out 2 weeks ago that the company that I am working at for the past 5 years is closing too. It really stinks because they haven't given us too much information just that they will be closing. We have no idea when our last day will be but they will be giving us a severance package if we stay until the end which most of us will.
I also have not motivation and I go through all the emotions. Actually yesterday part of my job was done and it was such a sad thing because it made it real. So of course I cried. I am scared. I have 2 small kids that I need to take care of and not knowing what the heck is going on really stinks.
I also get childcare assistance and they give you 8 weeks to find another job or you lose that assistance. I would never be able to afford daycare if I didn't have the assistance.
Also, I have no idea what I want to do. I have learned so much over the past 5 years and gained alot of experience with different things but I really have know idea what I want to do.
I wish you luck!Sue

Tell us what you owe, what you have already have cut and such. Maybe we can help you cut some more. I feel for you--my DH is out of work for a month after having emergency surgery last week. Things will be tight for us too, so I truly feel your pain!
