Went to a temp to hire place yesterday
Just a bit of background - I am a registrant inside of a hospitals ER. I love doing what I am doing but need to get out of there. My supervisor and manager are horrible and I am tired of how they treat people. There are around 5 others who are looking elsewhere and 2 just quit. It is horrible! I have been looking myself and sending out lots of resumes. Had an interview and wanted that job but they offered me too little so I passed on it.
Now onto yesterday -
I decided to sign up for temp to permanent jobs at a temp agency. I was there for 3 hours and 15 minutes. There was so much paperwork! While I was filling out paperwork, I almost walked out. This place is a very well known, reputable company that has been around for years. I will tell ya tho...It didn't give you the best of feelings...not comfortable there at all and the girls...especially the younger ones walked around in super high pump heels, extremely tight shirts and their boobs hanging out of the top of them! I am not exxagerating either! There was another younger girl, dressed okay but she was on her cell phone and walked out in front (the entire front is glass) and you can see her and hear her yelling at whoever she was talking to. When I first got there, there was another lady in an office with the door closed, but you can hear her yelling at someone who didn't show up for work that day...might have been the same girl that was yelling outside tho.
Anyways, I filled out my paperwork then had to be tested on the computer. I tested in filing, data entry (I got 100% on those), 2 Word type tests...scored in the 70's and 80's on those (they are looking only for around 45). I also was tested in Excel. I was a bit nervous with Excel because it has been so long since I have worked with it (I am talking YEARS). I did try to brush up a bit a few wks ago but I did not brush up that much...some of the stuff on the test was foreign to me...but I scored high on it too! LOL
Then I had to fill out more papers and then had my interview. This was with one of the girls with her boobs hanging out of her shirt. There was a picture on her desk with 2 of her friends and she was leaning over in it...you can just imagine how much was showing in that one!
She told me my scores...said I would be very easy to place. She asked more questions and was really thrilled to hear that I will drive up to an hour, depending on the rate of pay. Although...that might all be irrelavent (sp?) because she asked me if I was already told about the patient registration job. I told her no. Well, there happens to be a large client of theirs that is hiring for registrants. Guess what tho...it is a working from home job!
My hours would be 11:30-8:30 (which I don't like but I will be at home!). I believe she said I would have to work every other Saturday too from 9-5. I would make a little less than what I am making now but after you figure in what I will be saving on gas and sitters I will be making more! There is a few wks of training and then they provide me with a computer and whatever else is needed. I don't have to make calls...the calls are all incoming. She said she has sent a few girls to this company and they all love it. One of them was just hired on as permanent. She told me that I was more qualified than any of them.
I know I will have to be more disciplined because well, being at home and all...I might get a bit lazy and not do everything I am supposed to do. And I was kind of liking the idea of dressing up and going to work. But...on the other hand...I would not have to worry about if my sitter is quitting, or if my kids are sick or for their school closing days! I will save quite a bit of money on gas and sitter costs and wear and tear on 2 vehicles.
She said this company was a bit slow on getting back to people and it might take another week or so before I hear anything. She was pretty excited about faxing my resume to them tho. I have to call her every couple of days to see if anything else comes up too.

Young people today amaze me with the lack of professionalism they show. Heck I work night stock and showed up dressed better for the interview than ANYONE applying for day positions, I was APPALLED with what I saw them wearing, ugh! And manners? What are those today, but you saw that too, lol.
Hey, it sounds GREAT to me, I think if you put yourself in "WORK" mode you'll do great, even from home, and think of all the savings!!
GOOD LUCK!!

I hope you get something that works out. I think working from home would be an adjustment but you could do it!
I'm with you on flashing the "girls" in an office environment. Hopefully with age they will gain some maturity.

Thanks!
Part of me wants to contact the upper management about this place but part of me says to just forget it...do what you have to do, get a job and then don't worry about it.
I just had to laugh because they tell you that you have to come in casual/professional dress (or something like that). They actually told one guy to come back another day because he was in jeans. I wanted so badly to say something about their attire not being very appropriate but held my tongue LOL

Sounds like this job might make things a little easier for you. I am not sure something like that would work for me as my children are still learning to be quiet when I am on the phone, but boy oh boy would something like that help us out. Good luck and I hope you get it or even something better!

Hope it all works out just the way you want. You mentioned wanting to get in work mode when you are home, take the time to dress better than sweats & jeans & it'll help you get in the right mindset.

here's some more tips~

Not all of us are like that! I swear! I only let the 'girls' show on appropriate occasions (like for my husband in the privacy of our home).McD

Well, the manager of the office is probably some leering man who enjoys seeing "the girls", so he lets them do what they want. It's disgusting how people dress these days! I feel so old fashioned sometimes.
There is a lady who comes into our store, and she's more than a little overweight and has huge "girls". She comes in in a tank top and short shorts, with everything hanging out. She never wears anything else. It's a running joke in our store. If she knew how much we made fun of her, maybe she would dress differently.
I wonder sometimes if all these people don't have low self-esteem, and think that what they're showing is all they have that will draw people to them or get them attention.
It is sad...

Darlene, thanks for that link...I will check it out!
Mrs. McDowell, hahahaha...I am thinking we weren't talking about you...I am sure if you were having applicants coming into see about getting a job you would have your girls contained LOL
I too wonder why they dress like that. Honestly, I wonder if they have too much self esteem...they could care less what people think because they think they are great. Of course there are some that are not like that but the older teens, earlier twenties seem to be oblivious at their surroundings. They walk thru stores singing loudly, they crack their gum wherever, dress very inappropriately whether it is because of where they are or because they don't have the body type for it...Ughh...I don't know but it sure is aggrivating.

Ooops, I almost forgot to say that another temp agency called me today...I have an appt on Thursday morning to see them. She has an opening for an HR Administrative Assistant. Great pay (although no more than what I would make with that other job while working at home). It is 30 min away only too. At this moment it is only temp which I cannot do but they might consider a temp to hire position.
So, now I might have 2 jobs to weigh pros and cons with!

I am a firm believer that there is a time and a place for the girls to be exposed. Work is not one of them. I wear shirts to work that have a deep v neck but I put fitted tanks and camis under the shirt so that nothing slips out.
Could you imagine how mortified someone would be if they had a 'wardrobe malfunction' at work?McD
