    Default Scary Sight

Had a very scary sight poinedt out to me last night by DH.
Tuesday morning is our trash day and after he put our cans down last night he came and got me. We stood at the end of our driveway and looked up the street to the end with the rentals. 3 different houses had huge piles of furniture and stuff put down for the trash. Now these are seperate HOMES
all three had For Rent sign posted in the yard. Because of the housing slowdown our town is feeling the pinch more and more. Lots of small subcontractors have no work. The builders in our area have a glut of new homes sitting emtpy and aren't building new ones.
As you drive around town like we did at 7pm to pick up daughter from cheerleading more and more For Sale and For Rent signs are popping up.

I'm so Thankful that I've been here on this site and have started to get my financial house in order. We may have less work going on but we still have work promised til Dec. Now I know that could change and we could have any job put on hold but we've paid off several smaller debts and have a resevre.

Anyone eles seeing the signs for others going under?

It is very scary to think of all of the houses for sale. I rent and I am scared that my landlord is going to go up on the rent.

That is how it is around us in Georgia. Alot of the older houses won't sell because they built too many new ones, and then the new ones are back for sale, cause people bit too much off to pay. It really is sad.

Our town is pretty much ok, our bad time was actually a few years ago when Rubbermaid moved out (Rubbermaid ORIGIONATED right here and really WAS the economic center of our town).

One area that is one of the worst in the nation right now is Maple Heights, a suburb of Cleveland, OH. I was reading an article about it last week and honestly it's about to implode due to loss of taxes from all the repo'd, empty, left for "dead" homes and businesses. Hubbies family is from there and it's just heartbreaking for us to see. It WAS a great little post war 'burb, all the cute little houses and family type businesses. Now it's gang infested and drug infested, so sad to see the state of things.

Hugs to ya, I have faith you'll pull through this just fine, you to are a couple with true grit and determination!

Our area is still very much a hot spot for housing. Rentals are very hard to come by, in fact practically impossible, I know of someone who has been looking for over a year for something to come open around town. Although, CO has one of if not the highest rate of forclosures in the nation. Kinda doesn't make sense, but I guess certain areas are good and others not so much.

It is sometimes scary to see some of the things going on around the nation though.

Well here in Holland the American housing market is pretty much every day in the news. They talk about all the houses that have to be sold because the owners can't afford the payments anymore. It's sad !

There was a new development built right across from where I work a couple of years ago, and a lady said there were 9 for sale signs there on her street alone. When the building industry died here, it affected a lot of people. Everything connected to building was affected, too, so not just builders and workers lost their jobs.

Someone told me that the city had hired on new people in the building dept. and they're being laid off.

Both houses on either side of me are in foreclosure. I finally got the city to cut their grass. Hopefully, they'll be sold soon. There are a lot of houses for sale around here as well, and all over town. The lady who sold me my house just had to declare bankruptcy for her Real Estate agency, because she has had such a horrible two years. She and her partner are pretty much running it alone now. They say they may have to close, because they really don't have enough money coming in for the two of them. If they do close, it will be temporary, and personally, she's fine financially, but the business is in trouble.

I want so much to sell my house and move, but I can't even get anyone to look at it now. Everyone is waiting for real estate to hit rock bottom before they buy.

And they say we aren't in a recession. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

There are a lot of houses for sale around here, but very few for rent! We finally had to rent from an apartment complex, because the only homes for rent were in bad neighborhoods. We are in Jackson, MS, and still have a lot of people from New Orleans here.

So in a way, it benefits us that there are so many houses on the market. When we go to buy a home in 6 months, it should be a little cheaper and easier to find a home we like.

Well, I hope the housing market here stays good at least past next summer. We will be moving again (because of the USAF) and want to finally sell our home here because I'm done renting it when we aren't living in it.

We are one of those contractor families going under in a bad way. My husband has been self-employed for years now and always provided for our family. He always had work lined up. He hasn't had a job in almost 2 months now. The phone has rang under a dozen times in the last 4 weeks and contractors are cutting prices just to survive. We've gone through our savings and for the first time in our lives, we have to call our creditors next week because we're running out of money. He's trying so hard to find work, but nobody wants to part with cash right now. We're starting to experience our own "Great Depression."

    Default Housing bubble

I am saving as much a month as i can to buy me a little farmhouse a mile or so out of a smaller town then montgomery al. So I am trying to think this will be a good time for me in the next few months. I am saddening to hear the troubles a few of you have. Makes thing more real. I sit here watching the tv and hearing all about this and i felt. BIG DEAL, this bubble was for people who bought houses in the 400,000 dollar area when they couldnt really afford houses in the 100,000 area. So i said. Hey they knew when the ARM or That in 2-3 years the price would reset to something that would be very difficult to pay. But here i see. it doesnt just effect the big dreamers. It also affects hard workers and house wifes/husbands. Kinda looks a little different. My new place will be in the under 70,000 area i beleive and probadly will need lots of work. ANd now it seems as every new loan in the near future will require 20 percent down. GRRRR> I better check out a few more frugal ways to save a little more this month. ANyway. I hope that things will get over quick and people will get back to work. Please build some little one and two bedroom non brick fancy butt homes so someone like me with no real skills can afford to buy.

Here on the east coast things are pretty bad. Home prices went up so much & so fast, while wages stayed the same. A few years ago we decided not to move because 250K for a house just seemed so expensive. Now, the same house would list for 350K!!!

We knew there was no way that the market could keep up this pace. And with all the other economic woes (higher heating & medical costs, loss of jobs, lagging stock market & investment earnings) I'm AMAZED to see people around me still spending away like there is no tomorrow....
