Thumbs down Get into debt the Barbie way!

Has anyone seen the commercials for the Barbie Fashion Fever Shopping Boutique Playset? The playset includes a play credit card that kids can use to buy the Barbie fashions and, in the words of the product description on Amazon, "Swipe the Fashion Fever credit card to "pay" and find out the remaining balance on your account. But don’t fret. Once the balance hits zero, it will reset so you can continue to shop. Barbie dolls not included." Wow... Now there's a product designed to teach kids good financial lessons. (Not!) Even my DS exclaimed, "I can't believe they're teaching kids that!" when he saw the commercial. Here's the link:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Barbie-Fashion-Shopping-Boutique-Playset/dp/B000PD75BY"]Amazon.com: Barbie Fashion Fever Shopping Boutique Playset: Toys & Games[/ame] . Amazing.

Only three words to describe this:

    NOT OKAY.

    UNACCEPTABLE.

That is crazy and way to target to kids. I swear there was some other game similar to this and I can't think of what it was!

    Do you mean Mall Madness?

Find the steals and deals! And see what's in store for you!

Hey girls! Don't miss the big SALE!

Grab your cash and hit the mall! Get your shopping list ready and race from store to store. Quickly find the best deals and make your purchases. But remember, not every shopping trip goes smoothly. Sometimes an item you want is not in stock. Or you must go to the ATM for more cash. First shopper to make 6 purchases and get to the right destination wins!

Taking Mall Center: "Hey, this is on clearance!" "Cha Ching!" "Oh, we're out of stock, try again later".

Yes! You get the prize for the month! I bought this for my daughter years ago without even thinking about it. Luckily she never took no interest and it went in the trash.

I remember the commercials for it when I was little but it wasn't something I was ever interested in.

I think the part of that commercial that irks me the most is when one of the little girls says something like "I love shopping, you never run out of money".
I wish I would never run out of money. LOL!

Wow, that is depressing. That is not a toy that we will ever have in our house! In fact, I don't think we will have ANY credit card toys. Monopoly type money, sure. Toys that teach how to be smart financially, great!

The saddest part to me is that most parents probably don't see anything wrong with the toy.
