I quit cold turkey back in February. The first week is the hardest. I tried the Nicorette gum. When my cravings were the worst (like after meals) I would pop a piece of that crap in my mouth. It's like instant punishment for even thinking about a cigarette. Seriously...it must be some sort of Pavlovian effect or something. The biggest thing that helped me was I marked each day off on the calendar celebrating that I didn't smoke. I started to see how far I had come and how much hard work it took. I didn't want to have to start all over for a couple of puffs.

Good For You!!
DH quit last year and he says the hardest times for him are when he's driving and hanging wallcovering. When he feels the need for a ciggy he has a tootise pop. So far in the past year we've gone throught 2 bags. We've saved hundreds of dollars because he used to smoke 2 to 3 packs a day.
Good Luck you'll feel so much better soon.

You go girl! I can't remember how long it's been for me, 7 or 8 weeks. I did the patch and I don't know if it was them that made it so easy for me or the fact that I was finally ready to quit. I am now on step 2 of the patches.
Good luck to you. When I found I was feeling the urge to smoke I would take several deep breaths to relax and then find something to do. I cleaned and de-cluttered a lot those first few weeks.
Keep us updated!

You can do this. Keep a water bottle handy and drink from it and fiddle with the top screwing it on & off when you get fidgety. All that water is good for you besides.

Been there

Good luck girls! As an ex-smoker who also quit cold turkey 9 years ago, I'm here to tell you that it can be done!
The 1st 3 days are the roughest but after that it get easier.
I was allergic to the patch and I heard how nasty the gum was.

Good Luck!!!! I quit in January using the Nicotine gum. I did really, really good until June. Then I had one when DH and I had a huge blowup, then it was two and so on. Well I'm getting close to picking a date again but in the mean time my advice is ....NOT EVEN ONE!!!!! We're pulling for ya ladies.

Now, I'm not a smoker and never have been, so take this with a grain of salt!
My husband and I have watched people attempt to stop. Those that fail, generally return to cigarettes because it has been a lifelong habit. Not only are the chemicals in cigarettes addicting, but also the entire ritual of going to a certain spot, getting the cigarette out of the package, lighting it up... Each part of the process is relaxing to them.
The people who have successfully quit, are those who exchange one ritual for another. Find something that it relaxes you to do, and start doing that every time you get the urge for a cigarette. Even if it is just a mental exercise.
Good luck to you
