GRRR! Error on mortgage payment!!
I received the new statement for October and it stated we were behind. They say they didn't receive September's payment. I panicked to say the least. I knew I had sent it, so I went to view our bank statement online to see if the check went through or not. Well, guess what? It did. At Bank of America you can view the front and back of the check which is a great thing. I noticed on the bottom of the check I had wrote the correct account number, but when I went to view the back of the check it read, "credit to the account of XXXXXXXX," which was not my account! They messed it up by a number. So now because of their mistake, I have late fees and I am sure it will be reported to the credit agencies as a late payment. I have everything ready to call them first thing tomorrow and will even fax them a copy of the front and back of the check so they can see that they were the ones to make the mistake, not me. I worry easily about matters like this. I will continue to worry until it is corrected. I hope it is fixed without a hassle and they remove the late fees and do not report it to the credit agencies as a late payment.
I wonder what the person who received our payment thought when they received their new statement saying what they owed for the month. They were probably excited to see a credit to their account that they didn't make!! I wonder if they thought to call and see what it was about or if they just thought, YEA!!~*Michelle*~

I hope they fix it for you fast. That really sucks. You should not be charged or reported. If so contest it.

We had our mortgage with BofA, I'm sure they will fix it quickly and apologize to you for their error. I don't think it would show up on your credit report yet. Still is unnerving, huh?

It should be too soon to show up on your credit report. Usually things aren't reported until you miss the NEXT due date, for this very reason... mistakes do happen
. That said, in a couple of months you could get a free credit report and check it out yourself.
Also, when this "encoding error" (the official name for the mistake they made) is corrected, request a letter of apology for your records.
By any chance, is your mortgage with Chase? They've screwed mine up twice, once when I paid online!

They will fix it.. That stuff always makes me nervous. We are finally getting a good credit score, and I shudder to think of anything to mess it up. But once is not going to do anything. They will fix it.

Like everyone said, it'll be ok. I know what you mean about that panicked feeling, your poor little heart starts racing & it's hard to swallow. Deep breath and bask in the glow of you being right.

Update....
He said it should all be squared away by Wednesday. I was able to tell them what account they credited it to, when it was posted, and the amount. He was able to find it pretty quick in the other person's account and said he would start the transfer today and that by Wed. everything should show it as posted.
Believe me, I will be checking.
Oh, it isn't with Chase.~*Michelle*~
