BRAVO!!! I'm proud of you for taking up for yourself! I would have, and have, done pretty much the same thing. I had a dentist tell me when I suggested a cheaper alternative that he would just "tell me what they would do, and I could decided whether to do it." I walked out, and they had the NERVE to bill my insurance company!

I have that all the time. I am so glad you told her what you thought. I had to eventually blow off on mine also. They sure hate it when you have other important things to do with your money. And I think my kids come first. They talked me into a root canal and a crown. Cost me even with insurance. I have to have another one done. But I came right out and said I don't have the money and that I would have to atleast wait until the next jan rolled around and I could have some insurance. She understood. I mean what the heck, I am falling apart. But they hate to pull them. I guess they would if you would if you made them. So good luck.. I hate dentists anyway.. sorry if anyone is a dentist....

Good for you!!! I had a dentist that was extremely rude to me, EXTREMELY rude to me. He told me that I needed all this work done. I said I didn't know if I had the money to right then and he said well, can't you ask that new husband of yours for it. Sexist jerk. I switched after that visit and could not be happier with the new place that I go to. And all that work he said I needed, well, I don't. He said I needed to replace my old fillings, which were fine.
I hope you find someone new that is nice.

I am so proud of you.

I know how she made you feel because I got similar treatment when I went to the oral surgen. I have a wisdom tooth that needed to be pulled a few months back. Actual all four have to be done but only one was cuaseing the pain. Its 500 a tooth so I can only do one at a time.
Well when I told my surgon only the one he gave me a lecture and I feel like I was benith him.

I had that happen with a dentist that we've used for ages. We know him so well that we call him by his first name even. He started a root canal on a tooth of mine that I told him I didn't have the money to do so I wore the temporary crown for about a year....not a good idea but I did it (this was about 20 years ago). Anyway it came out, the tooth broke off so I had to go back to have it seen about. He came into the exam room and acted pretty much like your dentist did. I said, 'whoa, hold on there _________. I pay you good money to take care of my teeth and I'm not gonna take a _ _ _ _ chewing from you. Now you can fix it, don't fix it, whatever but you're not gonna talk to me like that. I've told you I don't have the money to spend on the tooth right now (not what he was wanting to spend at the time), would you have preferred I had the work done and not paid you?' . After that he was much nicer and in the 20 years since we have never had to have another 'talk'. He takes care of my teeth, is so sweet that sugar won't melt on him and we get along fine.

It's good you stood up to her....me thinks perhaps she has forgotten that she really is serving you, not the other way around. Maybe you helped her down the road. Now, shake it off and find yourself another dentist---you need to have that tooth seen to.

First of all. Bravo! She definately had that coming.
As for your tooth, do what you want with it.
Go right ahead & find yourself another dentist if you want. Has she been fine up until this time? If I called & was in pain our dentist would meet us at his office at anytime day or night, holiday or not. Good caring dentists are out there.

That said your dentist might have had one of those oops I wasn't very nice today, please let me have a do over kinda people. Most dentists, mine included don't like to pull teeth, they like to save them.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I think that you just gave her a lesson on professionalism. Actually she should pay you to fix your tooth because essentially you will have saved her from herself. If you treat your patients like she did..... soon you'll have no patients at all!!! Sounds like she really needed to be brought into reality that people don't always have the money to spend on their teeth, costs have just gotten out of reach!! Good for you for standing up for yourself!

That would have pissed me off too!!! I'm not good at yellin' at people...I would have stood up, removed the bib thing, picked up my things and WALKED OUT.

NO...don't go back there!! What a jerk! Find a new dentist...and check into the oral surgeon route...it's best if you can save the tooth (IMO). Who knows, they may let you make payments??

I can understand a dentist wanting to save a tooth but you didnt deserve the disrespect. I hope your tooth is no longer hurting you. I would go to another dentist if it were possible.

Good for you! What you told the dentist is what I decide to say...about an hour after I'm away from that person. Don't feel bad about standing up for yourself-it was warranted in that situation.
