    Default Need some ideas...

Our Daisy Troop are going to be putting together two thanksgiving box dinners for needy families thru the church we have our meetings at. I don't want to miss anything so can anyone give me some ideas of what you would think would be in a thanksgiving dinner box? Nothing can be too perishable... it takes a few days to get to where it's going.

    TIA!

Cranberry sauce. stove top dressing , some oranges, small bag potaotes, bag of onions, can of peas or beans .
You could do a small turkey roast.
    canned turkey gravy.
    some chips and dip.
Sure there is more but my mind isn't comming up with it.
    Good Luck

    Turkey
    stuffing
    cranberries
can veggies ( greenbeans, dried onion in a can, can of creme of mushroom, makes greenbean casserole, maybe with a recipe card) (can of yams, a bag of marshmallows, and some brown sugar, with another recipe card to make mashed yams casserole)
    rolls
    apple pie
(for keeping fresh, some companies make a pie set. comes with apples in a can, mix for the crust.)
a couple pkgs of turkey gravy mix, or a premade jar.

I think that is a good one..

    Thanksgiving Box:

    Canned corn
    Canned cranberry sauce
    Canned Olives
    Pickles
    Canned pumpkin pie filling
Boxed pie crust mix/or pre made graham crust??
    Boxed/bagged stuffing mix
Boxed cake mix/frosting, (for those who don’t like pumpkin)
    Fresh potatoes
    Gravy mix
    Fresh celery/carrots
Dinner rolls, (check your local thrift bakery)

I would prefer fresher ingredients but this stuff should keep
for a time and there is no way to know what the persons cooking
    ability is.

Good Luck and what a nice thing to do.

I didn't see boxed cornbread mix on the lists above. You could also add instant spiced cider mix.

    How about noodles?

some sort of pudding mix perhaps for those who may not like pie or prefer a "cream" pie.

I just wanted to say WHAT A GREAT IDEA! I'm a girl scout leader myself, since our girls have been Daisy's (now 4th grade Juniors). We've always collected canned goods for the food pantry. But I love this idea!!!

You could put a grocery gift card for the turkey and perishables. Our school PTA always use to do this. Since we always had the addressess we knew which groceries were closest. We also use to add as many "extras" as we could afford such as:

    nuts
    crackers
    bread crumbs
    flour
    sugar
    vegtable oil
    aluminum foil
    biscuit mix
    pancake mix
    syrup
    velvetta
pasta (esp.elbows to go with the velvetta)
    canned fruit
    cake mix
    jello mix
    juice
    rice-a-roni

The theory was some of this stuff could be used for more than just the day. If we had enough donations we'd add more staples like extra canned veggies, tuna, salmon, ect.

What a wonderful thing for you're girls to do.
