I watch kids and here are what we do extra on a special day. Without going out...
~Do a real picnic day, you know with the basket and the blanket.
* activity besides eating.. which is fun too..We did a nature scavenger kinda thing, everyone went looking for natural stuff (leaves and such) then put them in their baskets and brought them home to make a collage out of.
This took us a good 4 hours. And the best part is we never left home
~another one is maybe a pizza place and they can see all that
~library, firehouse, or even a nursing home to visit. Maybe make a friend, make cards before you go.
just a few crazy ideas..

When I was in Brownies, we visited a water treatment plant. Obviously is had some impact on me, because 25 years later, I remember going.
So maybe a trip to the public works department or something similar. Another idea is a trip to a farm.Julie

I think the firehouse, farm, nursing home and library are great ideas.
I know when my DD was about 7 or 8 they took a trip to a locally owned bakery and got to see how things worked and decorate a gingerbread man.Robbin

How about asking the bowling alley if they will show them how all of their machines work or the local movie theatre.
A small local museum would be educational.
Maybe the Salvation Army or Goodwill.
Will the SPCA let you visit?
My daughter's fourth grade class took a field trip called "My Community and Me" and they visited the local soup kitchen, the center where they collect food, clothes and toys for folks who's house had burned, etc and a local shelter. These may be a little to advanced for them, though.Last edited by ktsmama; 10-26-2007 at 02:35 PM.

Do daisy's do badges like Brownies/Juniors? If so I would think looking over the badges and somehow incorporate a trip in there where they can earn a badge or at least get on their way.
BUT I have no idea is Daisy's do badges, so disregard is they don't.

they do petals. Kinda the same kinda different.... They earn a petal by learning a different part of the girl scout law... for instance, we are having them put together thanksgiving dinner baskets for needy families in Nov. and that will earn them their caring and consideration petal. It's not as intense as brownies/scouts but gets them used to earning things.

How about a apple orchard. A visit to a nursing home. Pizza Hut, I think they do a tour and let the kids make their own pizza. The seashore, it's fun to walk the beach and pick up shells this time of year. Have fun!

the nursing home is a great idea, when i was in college my sorority would ":sponsor" a nursing home meaning we would wrap little dollar store type gifts (the can provide you a wish list) and then we would carol some evening in december, they always loved seeing the children

What kind of store is "Shoprite"? Just curious here.
Other great ideas have been mentioned though - pizza store, bakery, library etc. What are local things in your area? Heritage houses? Factories - cookies? Chocolate???
Apple Orchard is a great one - they get to pick apples, see how cider is made and a farm would be ideal as well.

I'm a cub scout leader and I'm just guessing at what Daisy Troups do but my cubs loved going to the animal shelter and having a tour--I was totally amazed that their favorite animal there wasn't a dog or cat, or snake but a rabbit!! We've also gone to a fish hatchery/ladder/dam and an art gallery that bronzed statues and showed them each step. A museum. We've gone on litter patrol--gave each boy disposable gloves and a trash bag and we cleaned the park and playground.
Also popular was having a Police Station tour with a bike safety, car safety program presented.
On my list for this year:
Fire Station
Bakery
Forestry Center

check with your council and see if there are any local landmarks or historical sites that have programs for the daisies. there are a few here that have programs for daisies and the programs usually last an hour or hour and half. they also might have a list of council sponsored programs for the whole year. we get a program book at the beginning of each school year.
