Default GGGRRR-Why do things like this keep happening??

As you know, this year we have been hit hard with nearly everything breaking down.Well...It was the toaster yesterday & the washer today! we had to replace them both.Bye-bye emergency fund
I am sooo fed up with how things are made today-nothing lasts. The washer that we had before, we bought 2nd hand in 1987 and it was about 20 yrs old at the time. With only minor repairs, that washer lasted until 1999-then we bought a new one & that went kaput today.

See, this is what emergency funds are for! You actually are getting ahead, because you don't have to take money from your household budget, or buy on credit.

wow, now that you mentioned that I am getting ahead...I guess I am..a little.lol. I just HATE the thought of trying to build the EF back up...it was really hard to build in the first place. But it feels sooooo good knowing that the toaster & the washer are mine, mine, mine & I don't owe anyone anything

Aw, I'm so sorry they conked out on ya!!

You're right...things just aren't made like they used to be made...which stinks cause it's not just a waste of money...it's more stuff in the landfill.

But, look at the positive...you had the EF all ready to go!! And it did it's job perfectly!! Hooray!

You're an amazing lady...you'll have it built back up before you know it!

I agree that things these days are made .... not so well and surely dont last long but glad you had an EF to fix or replace those items. Look on the brighter side, you didnt have to get into debt

Sometimes I think things are made so we will have to replace them every few years...that's how the companies plan to stay in business. It's a conspiracy against our EF's!!

It's amazing how long certain things will/won't last. I have an inexpensive battery alarm clock that still works after almost a decade and hopefully another decade or more to go. On the other hand, we have had dvd players stop working after a couple of years.

The best we can do is just use what we have until it completely breaks and can't be repaired anymore. Then hope there's enough left in the EF to cover the expense .

Marie- that's what we have always done too-when something breaks down, we repair it to make it last as long as we can. (Dh is pretty good at fixing alot of things)..We have also found that paying for a warantee is useless b/c most companies find a way to get out of it(we had an incident w/ a couch that we bought-but that is another story.)
