Default Just heard bad news...gas prices

Oil has hit $91 a barrel, and that means that gas prices will be hitting around $4 soon. OMG! I have no idea what I will do if I can't get this transfer. I can't afford it! The person on CNN said that sooner or later, it will go up even higher. What is going on?

I just feel so depressed over this.

A lot of our gas stations have gone "pay before you pump" if you're using cash now. They've had too many drive offs. But I can see why! People get desperate!

Say you're a single mom with three kids, and your job pays very little, but it's the only income you have. You run out of gas money in the middle of the week, and it's food for the kids or gas. That scenario would make a lot of people want to drive off with free gas.

What about heating oil? OMG! How will people stay warm this year? These are desperate times, and I foresee a lot of death and illness this winter due to people not being able to afford heat.

With prices rising so fast, even the charities are hurting. People have nothing to give! And those who have are hanging on to it for dear life, because they're afraid of times getting worse.

I'd better get hopping with that urban homesteading plan!

I agree. Its a shame. I wish the government would step in already and do SOMETHING!

Everything else will go up along with the price of gas, except our paychecks!

I agree the government should step in and help us Americans, it's a total shame but for me I just wont drive anywhere at all!

Thank goodness I filled up my oil tank already but I can see me turning the temp. down even lower to conserve.

This is why I'm not paying off any dept right now!!! If heating fuel keeps going up in price I'm looking at paying over $1200 to fill up my 275 gallon tank if it goes over $4.00 a gallon..I did fill it last march and we should be okay..but if we get a really bad winter it wont last all season.. It's really scary to think about all the inflation and how it will affect just about everything we do and need to live...I'm gonna do everything I can to stash away more money..

Ya know, it doesn't matter where you go, prices are going up....used to be just a few cents here or there years back....now it is leaps and bounds!!! Gas, groceries, health ins. (by hundreds!!), taxes, ETC. I do wonder at what point things will ever level off!!! The paychecks are certainly not staying in check with the inflation we've all been experiencing!!!!!!!!!!!! Katy

I feel for those of you who live up north & have to buy heating oil on top of paying for gas for the car. I have heart attacks when I see how much people are spending here locally to fill up their SUVs & pick ups. I live in one of the most poverty-stricken areas of the country & I just don't see how people can fill up their tanks & still buy food for themselves & their kids, much less pay any other bills.

If push comes to shove, I am fortunate enough that I live 2 miles from where I work, so I can use alternative methods to get to work. The bus or the "patamobile" (walking) will be used if I don't have to go anywhere during the day. I can even telecommute, but not everyday. If enough of the crazy drivers do the same, I can buy a bicycle & use that.

    Here's to a mild winter!

Our fuel costs are still much lower than most other countries, including much of Europe. I think this will motivate some people to look for alternative ways of doing things. In the meantime, it is going to be hard on a lot of people. I'd say, look for opportunities to carpool, make a conscious decision about every outing in your car, and seriously consider layering clothing so that you can keep your house at a lower temp and be comfortable. Good luck to all!

This morning I heard that it hit $96 a barrel...it has jumped a dime here just this week.I try not to go anywhere unnecessarily- that works for us during the week, but when dh is home on weekends, everyone wants to go here & there(GGGRRR) I'm praying that you'll get your transfer

That is part of the reason that I quit working. It was costing $50 and up to drive to work every week. Now, we only have to get $40/month.

Gas jumped here today by .09/gal. We already spend so much on Gas, almost 600/mo. I've tried to talk dh into taking the bus, but its been a no go so far. Maybe he will reconsider soon. I can't imagine what $4 or $5/gal will do to people, so many are on the edge right now. I saw today that forclosures soared in the 3rd quarter and the dow dove 362 points because of the news. Good thing we know how to be frugal and prepare.

i just heard gas was going up .20 per minute. that happened in a 24 hour period. they said it could hit almost 4.00 a gallon by spring. this scares me as i have to drive 20 miles towork then transport another 24 miles a day. we get milage but that wont cover much if it gets that high
