What's with the price of walnuts??

I went into our local Safeway yesterday and walked past the holiday baking section. I about fell over to see walnuts on sale for 9.45/pkg. This is just the standard sized (16 oz?) package. They were 50 cents off the reg price of 9.55! Are they that expensive everywhere? Gosh okay maybe I'm having a senior moment, but last time I bought I'm thinking they were in the upper 3's or around that.

I just bought walnuts, Diamond brand, I think it was the same size bag, and paid about $2.98.Sure seems like a major price difference. I have lots of black walnuts that we have picked up, waiting for them to dry a little more before we shell them. Thank Goodness for the trees.

I picked up five 16 oz bags a few weeks ago on sale at our Shop N Save for $3.88 each. They were a generic brand but good.

Ok, so they are just ripping us off up here I guess. They were Diamond brand. I'll have to check next time I'm at Walmart or Albertsons and see if it is a local thing or just a Safeway thing.

I saw some walnuts at Dollar General, didn't check the bag size, but they were about $2.00. That store is trying to stick it to you.

My Aldi's flyer had a 16 oz bag of shelled walnuts for $3.99.
The 48 oz bag of Diamond brand shelled walnuts at Sam's Club was $10.16.

thats how much they are here too. we just went last night and i was tempted to buy some but then i saw the price tag. yikes. no thanks!
