WTH? 4am store openings
Okay every year we hear stories about people who get up at 5am to be in line at the stores by 6am . As if 6am wasnt crazy enough Khols is actualy going to open at 4am this friday. Who are earth is deperate enough for a sweater at half price to get up at 4am? These people could take a lesson from us frugal villagers and do the shopeing early. Most of us find our things at even better prices then those "door busters" and we do it in peace and quiet at normal times of the day. Anybody going?

not going here! We are 45 min from any major store, so that would mean getting up at 2 something a.m...hurts my brain to even think of that!
Very well put that shopping early gets us the sales better than door-busters but in the peace & quiet.
We used to go when we were younger though. I got a 6.5' artificial tree the first year we were married for 29.00, we still have that tree, this will be our 22 year of putting it up!! It could stand to be replaced, but its tradition now...its been around longer than the kids.

My husband went for the first time last yr. It was fun for me at home just talking to him on our cell phone and I wasn't even with him. lol
He waited in line to get me a new digital camera and a wii for our kids.
I've never really wanted/needed anything to get me motivated enough to hit any door busters or black friday sales, but I can see the fun in it.
I love watching people camping out. Some are even in an rv.
What can I say? My life is pretty dull, so although I think it's crazy, it looks like fun. lolIf you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. Not my cup of tea. The public is normally too stressed to even think of trying to be nice or polite and I dont have the patience to deal with it! LOL
I would rather shop sales when I find them or budget all year for the holidays and pay what I consider a reasonable amount for what I intend to purchase. In any case, by the time I waste my time, gas, money stress eating, etc. it does not really save me much!

My DBF works as a computer technician for one of the larger electronic stores here. He has to be at work by 3:30 A.M. and will work until close. Last year, he said there was already a huge line waiting to get in when he arrived! Some people had already started arriving as he was leaving work the night before (10:00 P.M.) Friday is usually his day off, but his employer will fire anyone who is not there on Black Friday unless they have a dang good reason (dead or dying, basically).
I know my grandpa is going to be at Sears at 5:00 A.M. when they open to get a Craftsman tool set for DBF. I will be at work, dreading doing the morning transport for my client and then driving home (8-9:00 A.M.) because I have to go right by our biggest mall and most of the other larger chain stores that people will be hitting.

Black Friday is so much fun.
I doubt we will go to Kohl's since that is not a place I buy from to begin with, but we will be out at that time.
It is not so much about the deals to be had. For us it is just something we do and really enjoy doing it. We will head about 180 miles south to the beach on Thursday, stay at DH's company condo then we do our shopping in Destin/Ft. Walton. We go out for breakfast, load up on coffee, meet lots of very interesting people in the lines, and of course we shop.
Although, the best part of it for us is we are together doing something we enjoy. Sometimes it is fun to step outside of the box and do things out of the ordinary, like shopping at 4:00 am.

Some of you have a good point about it not being so much about the deals as it it about the experience. I do go out on black friday becuase it puts me in the christmas mood but not early in the morning. Maybe when my kids are old enough to have there hearts set on something I willhave to brave the wee hrs.
I know some people will be out trying to get a wii. I think something like that you arleady knew you were going to buy so why didn't you just buy it few months ago while they were on the shelf and nobody was going to kill you to get it out of your hands?
