I'm Thankful for ___ (fill in the blank)
Despite all the hustle of the Thanksgiving holiday, I really do try to step back and meditate on why I am thankful, and to whom I am thankful, and for what I am thankful. This year, I'll nominate my parents as my "thankful project". Mom and Dad just celebrated their 60th wedding anni. They still live on the farm, do a lot of gardening (so that they can give away veggies), are active in church, and have a ministry of taking care of "the old people". Mom has macular degeneration and has lost 75% of her sight, and has two knee replacements that didn't go so well. Dad has heart problems, and a bum arm from the time he fell off the barn roof. Nevertheless, they work and give and love. Grandma and Grandpa built the house where Mom and Dad live, and they were married in the living room of that house. The romance is still there, as evidenced by the twinkle in Dad's eye. They have gone through some really bad financial times; farming in the 80s was horrible and many lost everything they had. Mom and Dad lived frugally, and made it. What a great lesson to all of us kids and the grandkids. They have given us laughter, hope, faith. I am so thankful for my parents. How about you, my friend? Who can you nominate as your "thankful project"? What's the story you can share? Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for my grandparents. They celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary a few months ago. They raised 5 children (plus me) and are still going strong. My grandma is a cancer survivor (endometrial cancer) and has suffered from heart problems. My grandpa is the friendliest, most people-oriented person I have ever met and will do anything for his family. At the beginning of their marriage, they got deep into debt, but somehow managed pay it all off -- even while raising 6 young children. They are truly my heroes and I am thankful for them every day.

I am thankful for my family. It makes my heart full and happy when I walk in the door. Our favorite thing to do is hang out at home and read, cook, watch t.v. as long as we are doing it together.

This year, I'm most thankful for my Dad's recovery from bladder cancer, alcoholism, and cigarette smoking. I never thought he'd be a kindly old grandfather to my kids, but he is! The Veteran's Home (which I'm also thankful for) is helping him recover and thrive, and when they test him for depression levels, he scores a *zero*! He is gentle and new, and its strange for me - I have to get used to this not-scary man! Yeah go Dad

Dh and I talked about this last night. It was so cold out and we had a fire in the fireplace heating the house. We were thankful for a warm home and that our families were safe and warm. We reminded the cat and the dog they should be thankful as well, lots of little furry animals left out in the cold and hungry
yes we're a little goofy. Not to mention all the people who don't have warm places to sleep or enough to eat.
I'm also thankful to have been born here and have the freedom to celebrate our thankfulness.

My list could go on and on but here's what's currently tops on my list:
I'm grateful that DH's back surgery went well, was a success and he is recovering well from it.
I'm grateful that everything fell into place the right way concerning his surgery, including the financial side of it, due to DH staying on top of everything and making many phone calls.
I'm grateful for all of our friends who have loved and supported us through this.
I'm grateful for my DH, my daughter, SIL and grandkids.
I'm happy to still be on this planet sucking air. God is good
“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

There are so many things that I am thankful for. But most of all I am thankful that I am one of God's children and I know that he loves me very much. I am thankful for the man that married me after my first husband passed away. He took in a woman with 4 children, and one of them was handicapped and never blinked an eye at the responsiblity he was taking on. I am thankful that his mother and father taught him to be a stand up guy and never be afraid of a challenge. He is my hero, my husband, and most of all my best friend. He is a good father and grandfather and treats my children and grandchildren like they are his own. I am blessed with 5 daughters and 8 grandchildren. What more could a woman want....oh yea...he is so frugal....maybe that's why we get along so well...LOL...Blessing to you all..Kathy
