Default I HATE GROCERY SHOPPING!! RANT

I go once a month to buy groceries and I was in for a shock-in one month, juice has jumped .10 a can (frozen lemon)( I had to buy 26), a big jar of applesauce jumped .20(had to buy 3). fruit cocktail jumped .5 (had to buy 2),tartar sauce jumped .14(had to buy 2) and a can of enchilada sauce jumped .9 (bought 1)...that adds up.What is it going to be next month?gggrrr. When I use to shop once a week, I really didn't think too much about the slight increases here & there...but now that I have been going only once a month it's made me wake up! that was a total of 3.67 - but when every dollar counts that's alot at the end of the year-44.04. I have also noticed that the stores are phasing out the cheapest brands of foods that I buy -forcing me to have to pay for the "next least expensive" GGGRRR.Has anyone else noticed this?

I swear Walmart is always doing that! It seems like everytime there is a "roll back" everything else goes up to make up for the roll back.

I shop Once a month too , and lately will run in for things that I see for a great price, on sale , to stock up etc. and I have noticed the huge price increase lately. Knowing prices, keeping a price book ( mostly in my head now ) I notice it quite a bit. For some of my friends they see no increase, but they readily admit they don't pay attention to it...

On a side note they will be increasing again in next few months as stores, manufacturing etc adjust to fuel increases etc.

I agree. It stinks that the cost of everything is going up. I guess with fuel cost going through the roof, it was only a matter of time before everything else went up also.

Everything is going up. They claim it's the price of gas. The best we can do is boycott any company that seems to be raising it's prices higher than anyone else is. Chances are they are trying to make a killing. I for one refuse to comply.
I feed 5 adults here. That is a lot of groceries. At one time I would overlook price increases as long as the were not out of the ball park. Not anymore. I need light juice being a diabetic and I have noticed a $3 difference between some of the stores and brands. Imagine one store selling light juice at less than $2 a bottle and another closer to $5. Over double. If you read the labels there is not much of difference in ingredients, and I can't taste a flavor difference. When this happens I am no longer store or brand loyal.

Ugh I agree the cost increases are bad. I skipped buying eggs yesterday. I was not paying $2.29 for medium eggs!

I agree; the price increases are insane, and I just can't see how it all attributes to fuel costs.

I felt the same way when I went to Sams last week. The bag of frozen wings went from 11 something to 14 something. The beef hotdogs used to be 10 and now 15. Wow, such a big jump..I guess they are raising cause usually people get raises in Jan. That way they get it all.

I does seem like it's getting ridiculous. I stopped at the grocery on the way home to pick up milk and I couldn't believe that eggs were $2 a dozen--that's crazy. I going to head to Aldi this week to pick up my baking supplies for Christmas, hopefuly they'll be a little better.

It's going up everywhere. We've taken to getting 99% of our groceries in bulk at Costco (it's like Sam's Club).

I'm making more soups and stews...they just go farther. We're only getting fresh fruit and veggies when there's a major sale...all else is frozen.

And...as far as the gas prices go...yup, they're going up here and we're driving less because of it...money is tight and there's just no extra $$ in the budget for gas. I hope it doesn't go up a lot more.

I'm adjusting our budget to suit what we can get cheap. Last week was mushrooms a huge bag for $2 on clearance. Tonight we had mushrooms on toast for dinner. I got frozen berries cheap so I made berry muffins to take to work.

I've noticed the increase of prices too, and we simply do without the extra's here now cause I refuse to pay the extra price.

For instance, at Thanksgiving, our Pig's brand cranberry sauce jumped from
.99 a can to 1.19, but they had bags of whole cranberries in the produce section on sale for .89. I bought the whole berries and made my own cranberry sauce and everyone loved it. I probably could have found canned cranberry sauce cheaper at another store, but I would have to drive a good distance and use my gas (which is steadly going up) to drive to the next town to another store. I only shop the other stores if I am already in the other town for something else, like a doctor's appointment. I just shop sales locallly and do more scratch cooking and baking. I have a freezer full of deer meat, seafood and vegetables I put up over the summer from our garden, and a winter garden now, so I just make do with what we have. I do buy chicken and pork on sale when the Pig has their BOGO free sales, and I try to stock up then. We eat alot of soup & stews now that the weather is cooler and I hit the dollar stores before I shop the Pig.

I noticed increases every week that I go in to shop. It is getting ridiculous. If we got raises every week that would be different, but IF we get a raise it is only once a year, yet expenses go up constantly! It is very frustrating!

I can't imagine buying enough food to feed all your house apes for a month in one trip. The planning that must take to make sure you have everything! I am impressed.
