Update on Goat Situation
Well, a man is coming sometime today to take Sissy. He has 10 goats so I know that she will have companions and a good home. She has healed up nicely, but she is grieving for the other goats. Last night, we heard the dogs that escaped the goat pen after the attack Monday morning barking behind the house in the woods. We couldn't see them, but we know it's them. We shut Sissy up at night so she will be safe, and I even shut her up during the day if I leave, just in case the dogs come back.
I called Animal Control this morning and they told me if I get permission from the property owner who owns that land, they will place the live traps there. We know the guy, so I called him and left a message on his answering machine. He will call me back.
The newspaper called yesterday and said they do want to do a story on the problem, but the Mayor is retiring this week and it will be next week before they can talk to me. That's fine, it will give me time to talk to the other goat owners so they can voice their concerns and tell their stories as well.

Yeah, out of the goat business for now. We had plans to fence in a place on the other side of the pond for the goats, and we may still do that one day. Hubby said he will buy a baby donkey next time to be raised with the goats for protection though.
Yeah, we feel the other pets are safe. The Two cats, Willie & Gracie, are in and out of the house and we have plenty of trees they can climb if need be, Dixie, our lab is put in her kennel at night, and Abby Chihuahua is never left out on her own, even to potty. She's quite old and her sight is not that good, so we worry she may run up on a snake.

I'm glad that Sissy is going to a good home, but sorry that all this had to happen. I know you'll miss her.

Tom came to pick Sissy up around 1:30 yesterday. He offered me $60 for her but I wouldn't take it, since it was enough for me to know that she has a good, safe home with other goats. I gave him her worming record and schedule along with the goat's mineral lick, wormer, a large roll of peanut hay, goat pellets and sweet feed since we won't need it anymore. He said he has a hoof trimmer and I told him her hoofs where trimmed two weeks ago so she is good for the time being. He was amazed at how tame she is and said she will get plenty of attention from his grandkids, which I especially like, cause Sissy loves kids. He lives pretty close to our church and he said we could come visit her anytime we want since he is retired and works at home now. I like that too.
He called last night to say Sissy fit right in with the other goats the minute he introduced her, and she got alot of love and attention from the grandkids and his wife who simply love her. I told him I would wait a few weeks before visiting her so she can get settled in good. He's coming today to pick up the feed and hay.
DH asked me last night if I wanted him to take the pen down and remove their house. I said no, cause we may need it for another critter. They seem to find me somehow, and I'll have a place for them at least. After Sissy left yesterday, I cleaned out the goat house, emptied the water and feed troughs and scrubbed them down good and put them away under the shelter in back of the feed shed. I raked up the goat pellets and put them in a bucket for fertilizer and that was the end of it all, except for the many wonderful memories that will remain with me always, and I'm so thankful and blessed to have them.

Oh Carolyn, I am so sad you had to give Sissy away but so happy that she has a good home and they will love her like you did.

Yeah, I love the fact that I can visit her and see how she's doing.
We got several calls from other goat owners in the county who were willing to take her, but they sometimes take some of their goats to market, and I didn't want to take the chance that they may take Sissy. Tom is retired and he and his wife just love them as pets, and they take excellent care of them, so that is what I wanted for her. I checked with my vet and he said Tom buy's his goat wormer from him and he sends for him if any of the goats have problems, so I know Sissy will be taken care of properly. Vet also said I would see how nice of a home Sissy has when I go to visit, so I'm looking forward to that.
I'm now concerned with solving the stray dog problem in our county and the fact that there are so many unresponsible pet owners.
And on that note. My vet asked me while he had me on the phone, if I was willing to foster a year old Bloodhound who was abandoned by it's owners and brought to the shelter a few months ago. He said she is ready for adoption but they need the space for other dogs. I talked to Hubby about it last night and he said "O.K." so vet is bringing her out today. Hubby is excited since he has always wanted a full-blooded Bloodhound. Vet say's she's AKC registered and he has her papers. Plus, he say's she is a sweetie and healthy as a horse. I may consider adopting her and giving her to Hubby for Christmas, LOL. I first have to see how she reacts to the other critters we have here. I have her kennel ready for her.
I told ya'll they find me, LOL.

OMG you will LOVE the blood hound, what's her name?
We have a 3 y/o male named Cleotis and just love him, and he's a house dog! They're just such lovable goofballs you can't help but laugh at them.
Cleotis is a bundle of energy for maybe 5 minutes and then a speed bump laying in the way the rest of the time. And SMART!!! You can see him processing things and debating doing things. In fact the pic below is of Cleotis being a speed bump on the rug in the family room, he often sleeps that way

Oh, and our rat terriers run him, they run the house and the show and he lets them, lol.
On the donkey for protection, they can work well, but you still have to be careful if it's a dog pack, they can outnumber them. We had a donk with the mare herd and he would stomp single dogs, fox, coyote and even cats.
Hugs, I know this has been hard for you but I'm so glad that things are working out for the best in this situation. And I'm so glad Sissy found a good home.

So sorry for the loss of the goats. I lost a goat once to two dogs and was so sad, so I know what you are going through. Great news on the new dog though.

LOL, I just called my vet and he's on his way out here with her (Bloodhound) now. I asked him her name and he said her Registered name is, get this.....Redneck Daisy Duke, LOL! Said they (shelter) have been calling her Daisy. He said he has the breeder pack that the owners got when they bought her and her Pedigree is included along with the breeder info. By the way, the owners were fined and have to go to court for abandonment, so he said he will see to it that we can adopt her if we want since he will see to it that they don't get her back when he has his say so in court, cause she was left for dead with no food, water or shelter and was chained up in the owners back yard for almost two weeks before the neighbors called the police.
Bless his heart, he's giving me a 6 month supply of Heartguard and Advantage Flea & tick control for her and the horse lead and choke collar they walk her with. Horse lead?.......Healthy as a horse!.....I think I may have myself a four legged exercise machine here, LOL.
I got my camera ready to take a few pics of her when she gets settled in her kennel and I'll post them shortly. Oh, he say's she's red with a little white under her throat and chest. I read on the AKC site this morning that that's acceptable for Bloodhounds.
I hear him/them coming up the drive. I'll be back in a bit with pics.
Can you tell how excited I am, LOL

Ohhhh, can't wait to see her!! Our Cleotis has the white on the chest and paw tips, he's registered but pet registry only, that's ok though as I'm not interested in breeding, one lovable lunk is enough for me!
And do you realize how much these dogs usually cost? I'd wanted one for YEARS but couldn't justify the $1,000 plus cost, I lucked onto my guy for $200, called hubby and told him what he'd bought me for Christmas, lol.
And Cleotis's mama is named Daisy too, seems to be a common blood hound name, that and Duke. Cleotis got his name from a Pepsi commercial, I wanted to name him Cletus (we have a Cooter dog already) and go with the Dukes of hazzard theme.
Waiting anxiously for pics!!
Oh, and they don't really drool that much, pretty dry mouthed.
And again they're SMART SMART SMART dogs!! But sometimes their noses get them in trouble.
Oh, and to occupy Cleotis in the summer we just open a window and he'll stand there all day "looking" outside with his nose.
And, and, and, I know, but another thing, the first time they bay it makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck! You get used to it though, and it's actually a soothing sound compared to the sharp bark of other dogs.
