Update on the IceStorm....
at least in my neck of the woods.
I still have power (I am in south central Kansas, just north of Wichita).
However, I do have LOTS of ice. It's really weird, it's 30 degrees and raining. Course that "rain" is becomming ice on the trees and streeets, but it's raining hard enough that I can hear it going through my gutters as I sit here. The trees are hanging way down from the weight of the ice, but fortunatley, we don;t have really big trees right near our house. The temp. is going down, so it changing to sleet and freezing rain this morning. The kiddos have no school.....so I am hoping we keep power for both our warmth, and my sanity. This storm is supposed to continue on through the day and nite and not really improve until tomorrow.
So, yes I have ice, lots of it. I still have power, and the kiddos are home from school. Yesterday I got out several flashlights, extra batteries, and got out batteries for one of our radios.......I'll keep you all posted.
Thanks so much for caring.......I love the Village!!!Last edited by IntlMom; 12-11-2007 at 08:00 AM.

We still have our power as well. We also ready have 1/4 inch of ice and the storm is supposed to continue all day. I hope that it changes over to snow. My DH as to go to work this morning. He usually walks to work, but it is too slick to walk. He only needs to go 1/2 mile, but it still scares me.
I wish it would get colder, so that it would snow.
I pray that everyone stays safe today. Don't take any unneeded risks.Julie

Hope you ugys continue to have power through the storm. From the news reports it looks and sounds like a horrible storm. Stay safe.

Power is still on here too. The sleet is coming down like crazy. All the schools are closed. They are predicting 1/2 inch of ice.

We have a lot of rain turning into ice too. While we are down to a skeleton crew at work, I was one of the ones who had to come in. So far we have power. But I am REALLLY scared about all the big trees in my yard. Last winter during an icestorm, we had a lot of branches, etc. fall.

I'm glad you are all safe. We hear some reports of massive power outages in the storm area and it sounds very scary.

Ya'all keep safe and warm, I'm keeping you in my thoughts. A few horse breeders I know are currently without power out that way, they get to deal with all the regular nasty stuff PLUS keeping water for the horses and chores, not fun!
Hoping we don't get this Thurs like they're predicting.

I have kept every one of you in the path of this storm in my thoughts and prayers while watching and hearing reports on TV and the radio. I also heard about the massive power outages and I'm so glad to see that some of you still have power and are safe. I'm wondering though how many other fellow villagers are without power and unable to check in with us. I pray they are able to at least keep warm if they don't have power. Hoping to somehow hear from them soon.

My parents are in Missouri. I'm thinking their power is out cause Mom hasn't emailed me back today.....My brother has 3 poultry houses on the property and it scares me that they might lose their chickens...yikes!

Dolphin sending positive thoughts to your brother, I know those chicken houses NEED the electricity, the computerization to them is amazing, but needs the power!
And I've just heard that 3 friends in the OK area have been without power since Sunday and no end in sight, melting ice on kero stoves for water for the horses. And the horses do NOT appreciate being locked in 24/7 in this stuff!
