    Default Help! DS has hives

Help. My DS, 8, has hives or some kind of rash all over his body. It is itchy but he isn't scratching yet. I noticed his face and neck looked splotchy yesterday. Today he is covered.

Does anyone have any ideas? We haven't changed soaps or anything lately. I gave him a benadryl but it isn't helping yet.

    Thanks for any ideas.

i can relate. i am comming off of a hives episode too, lasted literally a week and a half (counting to today...i still have it but it's going away). I didn't respond to the benadryl, lanacane, aveno, etc. in the end i went to the doc, he gave me some meds. the more i slept the better, because i wasn't scratching as bad asleep as i was awake. good luck.

My DD (7) has had them before to the point I had to take her to the ER. They gave a shot of Benadryl and she had to take oral steroids for over a week. The dr there felt it was due to a virus. We gave her Aveeno baths the first couple of days and rubbed her down with Calamine lotion and that seemed to help alot. We also just kept her in a T shirt and panties because if she got hot, the itching got worse. Hope your DS is better soon.

Oh poor thing I hope he gets better quick!

My daughter had a mean case and it turned out to be from that Febreeze stuff. Did he encounter anything in school that was out of the ordinary? Good luck & hoping for a quick recovery!

~My toddler had outbreaks this summer. We aren't sure if it was viral or connected to a juice allergy. For three days in a row she broke out an hour after having Aldi's fruit punch which she'd had on other occassions. This was a new bottle. We stopped giving her the juice. Still don't know what caused the hives but I know how scary they can look. An oral antihistamine and topical anti-itch cream helped make my dd a little more comfortable. Hope you find out soon what's bothering him!~

My oldest DD gets hives when she is under stress. They last for a couple of days and go away if she can keep from clawing at them. Has your son had any unusual stress lately? Allergies are the most common cause but stress is #2.

Awwww, I hope this rash dissapears soon and he's feeling better. My 6 yr. old grandson gets rashes as well for no apparent reason. They last a few days and then just vanish. His Dr just told DD to give him Benadryl and if the itching gets to severe, give him cool baths with baking soda. I remember my mom would do this when we had rashes. The baking soda is soothing and helps dry up the rash.

If it doesn't clear up soon though, or it gets worse, I would take him to see the doctor. Keep us posted on how he's doing.

Well I took him to the doctor and he has strep throat. His throat didn't even hurt. He never had a fever either. We are hoping the rest of us don't get it. The rash still hasn't gone away. Hopefully it will soon.

Sorry he has strep throat, that's no fun. At least you figured out why he had the rash and now he can be treated. Make sure to wash hands and common items often.

My DS once had strep with a rash. Never complained of a sore throat, just a tummy ache.

Glad your boy will be getting better soon.
