I am not complaining but.....
I just wondered if it is usual for the site to be quite slow to load up the pages?
Or is it my computer. I click on a post and it takes about a minute (or so it seems) to come up on the page.
I am new here and just thought I would check.

I'm not having too much of a delay, though I did get "too much traffic on the server twice" in the last 5 minutes..

it might be your computer or your settings. It loads quick for me. I'm not quite sure how to help. I know if you go into your UserCP you can turn off signatures, and that helps speed up some. But i don't know what else to suggest.

I'm having it load slowly for me today, and I have cable modem, so it could just be the servers are extra busy today.

It sems to be loading at a normal speed for me today. However, the past few days I have been getting the "server too busy" quite often again.

Is your computer slow on other sites? I'm not seeing a problem now. Some days my internet service seems to drag and I'm on broadband.

Are you on dial up? If so it would help if you went into your user control panel and turned images off. With so many tickers, large images and of course the ads, that really slows things down for dial up users.

If you use Firefox, you can get Adblocker and selectively block ads from certain places, or specific images. I did a few modifications to this site simply because I'm on a laptop at home and vertical space is at a premium for me. I also dislike doing a lot of scrolling.
I had siggies blocked for a while, but I turned them back on because it helps me get a feel for people. Some do take up a lot of space. I did some tweaking to mine to make it less obtrusive.
Turning off avatars worked for me, although it was hard to remember who's who for a while. But- since images take more bandwidth than text, it is most efficient to get rid of those.

The ads are what make it possible for FV to be here at all. You'd be amazed what it costs to keep a site open, it is not free. Just something to keep in mind.
