Just wondering..... why you live where you do
Why do you live where you do? More than likely you live where you do because of your job(s) or to be near family. But my intent was to get a little more detailed than that. I was wondering why you chose to live in a house, duplex, apartment, studio, condo, etc. Or why you chose to live in a city, suburb, small town, rural setting, farm, etc.
We chose to live in a rural subdivision. It's not a farm, but is definitely in the country. Our subdivision has about 40 homes, each on at least 3 acres. Some folks have horses; many garden. We are within 5 miles of a small town of about 5000, and within an hour of a large metro area. We consider it to be great as it is very family oriented and neighborly. It is safe out here. We are close to emergency services, hospital, churches, schools, restuarants, libraries, and shopping. All the benefits of a city (major league sports, shopping, specialized medical services, large libraries, cultural events, etc) are only an hour away. The cost of living is less where we live and we love the peacefulness of our area. There are subdivision restrictions, which are reasonable, and they help to keep up property values. Traffic is much less here, although it is steadily growing.
I was just wondering why you chose to live where you do!Spiritual:

Well, yes, we live where we do soley because of hubbys job. Our home is in a nicer subdivision where we all have about one half of an acre......we like it b/c there are no fences and everything is open and it seems like we have more space than we actually do. Our town is small - 3000 ppl. We love it. It is nice and "old-fashioned" with a heavy mennonite influence. We are about 5 minutes from a grocery store in the next town over (pop. 20000) and about 45 minutes from "the city" - Wichita. We have no family nearby, but we love being able to raise our family in this quiet area. Hubby in only about 1 mile from work- that's great too!

We live in a "major" city. We used to live on an acreage, but it wasn't for us, not necessarily the acreage living, I loved the quiet, but the subdivision itself. There were no kids, we were stuck between 2 school divisions, so it just wasn't working.
We moved back to the city, we're in a house in a nice community. We're close to all amenities. My kids are very involved in sports and cadets so being in the city cuts back on our driving quite a bit.
We're in a house, in a nice cul de sac, so low traffic, it allows for the kids to play street hockey out front, bike ride within the cul-de-sac. We're in a house. We gave up our nice quiet lives on the acreage, we wanted to have as much privacy as we can by having a house, not a duplex or 4 plex. We also chose an older neighborhood(35 years) instead of a new area as there were no real yards, no garages. An established neighbor hood is wonderful with mature trees, etc.

Well we live where we live because the Army sent us here.
I live in a neighborhood where some of the people are the only people to have lived in their houses. The houses are 60 yrs old or older. Some of my neighbors are in their 80"s and 90"s
We picked this house because its two blocks from the high school so my kid(s) can walk and because it was affordable. We live in a town of 9000 people and unfortunatly about 50 % of them are poverty level or below. Its a nice town with nice people and there is lots to do as it is family friendly. Ods graduated high school here and we so hope yds will too

I was born here -- and stay because of my parents. Job wise, I could get a job as an RN just about any where in the USA.
We live on a small farmette -- dh and I were both raised on a farm, and decided we wanted to raise our children on a farm as well. We looked at over 50 houses, in subdivisions, in town, on farms -- before we found this one. As soon as we walked in the front door, we both felt we were "home".

We live where we do (an established wooded neighborhood and loads of trees) because:
~we're near family
~my husband's job is here
~many of my friends have moved in this general area
~our house has ample space and land
~we are close enough to general shopping of any sort; yet can drive a short distance to the beach, mountains, or NYC.
If all of the above weren't an issue, we would move. We live in a very expensive, high cost, high tax area. It's makes trying to keep up very difficult and like beating a....

We live in England because that's where the Air Force wants us. But we did chose to live off post because we wanted to actually live in England.
We live in a nice quiet area. Our neighbors are great with any cultural questions-like when I saw gypsies camped out in a field near us or about the different holidays.Wife to Air Force DH for 7 years.

We live in a home with 2 acres because we wanted out of the city. Our zip code belongs to a small community of about 20,000 but I'm only six miles from the city with a population of 650,000+ and only 30 miles from another city of 1.2 million people, with several smaller cities in between. I think we have the best of both worlds.
Funny thing is when they appraised my house, the appraiser knocked some off the value because you could see mobile homes from my land. In my mind, he should have added value because I could see. I could see the rolling hills behind the mobile homes, I could see the sunset each evening and the sunrise each morning and I can see stars at night along with the lightening bugs. Looking out my front windows and across to the house across the street it looks like a park. I don't hear the boom boxes from the passing traffic, I don't hear the racing cars, loud voices...just the chirp of the birds and the crickets.
We have hummingbirds, red robins, blue jays and yellow butterflies and of course the Texas Blue Bonnets.

We both grew up here. Every member of our immediate families live within 7 minutes of us. It's a quiet, small town that is 45 minutes outside of NYC, which makes all that culture available in an instant. We've got great schools, but a high cost of living.
I'm dying to get out of here.My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

We moved when the kids were in 1st & 3rd grades to a more rural area, about a 1/2 hours drive from where we were before. We are still near family but have about 5 acres compared to neighbor close to neighbor. We love having some room around us and like being self sufficient. It is very relaxing here & have wildlife galore to entertain us.
It's calm, peaceful & hard work sometimes and oh so right for us.
Edited to add that we are in this state because of family, we'd love to move to a state with lower taxes.~*Darlene*~

I live 20 minutes away from my family. DH and I moved back to this area to be close to our families. I live in this current house because it's super cheap rent. I looked into buying a house but since I'm going back to school and only want to work part time, I'd rather live here and only pay $450 than somewhere else for close to $1000.

We live here because of family. We also wanted our children to grow up in a small community where everyone knows everyone. It sure helps because if any of my children do anything wrong, I sure do hear about it quickly. I actually like that eventhough they might not. LOL! We like the smaller school district, which I actually work for. It is nice being in a rural community. We are about 15 minutes away from the nearest town with a grocery store. That isn't too bad. I am not sure I would want to live anywhere else.

I rent a mobile home 10 minutes from my family. I live in a small town.
A few years ago I moved my daughter and I to a large city and we absolutely hated it. I like being near family and won't move again.

We are in a largish town (200,000) but live in a rural area, outside of town. Dh and I both ended up here about the same time and decided to make it home. We love it, and dh's job advancment has been here. We are about 300 miles from our familes respectively. Our kids both live within 15 minutes of us.
We have 1/2 acre...we'd like more, but land prices here are unbelievable. I don't anticipate us going anywhere...ever. To me, this is *My perfect little corner of the world*.Stinkbug
