Does this sound unreasonable?
Long story short.....dd had a family picture done at Christmas. Her BIL is a professional photographer and has done them before. They turned out great, and she showed me the one she was sending to her grandparents (my parents) Then...I kinda realized we didn't get one for Chrismas as I'd expected (hoped). So...I casually asked her if they had any left, as we'd like to have one. She told me no, they were too expensive so they decided not to get any more. Okay. So, I than asked if maybe I could just order one for myself and she said she would let me know and the price. I get email today and an 8 X 10 is 40.00???? A 5 X 7 is 35.00. Does this just sound outrageous??? I know professionals are expensive, and I'd assume BIL gave them a discount?? But geesh! This is local so no mailing or anything.

Sounds very high to me.
DS's baseball team has a profession photographer that comes to every game and takes action shots. She charges $7.00 for a 5x7 and $10 for an 8x10. Even when she does the team photo she charges the same amount. I looked up on her website and that is the same price she charges for family portraits, prom portraits, senior pics, etc....DD (19)

I'd gather the family & take my own picture.

Sorry for your dissapointment.~*Darlene*~

Can you get the pic from your parents, scan it and make your own copy?

Or borrow the grandparents picture take it to office depot or kinko's and have a color copy made of it.....it should just cost you a few bucks I would say between 5-10 dollars.
I did this with a old photo of my dad and it worked quite well.
Good Luck,

Had I known we weren't getting one, I would have made a copy (cheating, I know...and I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that) And my parents don't live locally.
I was expecting maybe 20.00? But really...40.00 is crazy! Every other year, they've done photos and given them away pretty freely (as gifts) so I don't know what changed. She said he charges way more for outdoor portraits, but the sitting fee is already paid! It really makes no sense to me. And unfortunatly, I'm going to tell her that I'm not ordering one. I see them pretty regularly, but the photo was nice.
Also, most are copyrighted on the back and can't be copied at Kinko's etc.Stinkbug

Good grief.
I thought $8.99 for an 8x10 was outrageous. :surprise: No wonder your dd couldn't buy anymore.

I remember a similar price when dh's family wanted family portraits done. When we chose our poses, plus our share of the sitting fee, and then to frame it (even ourselves) it was way more than we had expected. I agree with others who suggested getting everyone together and maybe borrowing a really good camera and doing it yourself.
