    Default Wheat Pennies

You all know you should be checking your pennies before they go in those change jars, right?

Wheat pennies are pennies that have Lincoln on the front, but on the back say "ONE CENT" and on either side have sheafs of wheat. Some of these wheat pennies are worth quite a bit of money, depending on the year. All wheat pennies are worth at least two or three times their value (which, yes, I realize is only 2 or 3 cents).

Make sure you check them out!

Thank you for this link. Someone was talking about wheat pennies at work the other day. I used the link and I have around $5 if the ones I have would be considered very fine. I can't imagine ever selling my coins, but it's still a very interesting link and I will keep saving them as I find them .

Dh is constantly snatching these up. Wheat pennies, silver dimes (back when they had real silver in them), buffalo nickels (the old ones, not the new ones), and bicentennial quarters

One of my dad's hobbies is coin and old money collecting. He has a huge collection he keeps in his safey deposit boxes, each item is in its own protective case so that they do not get anymore wear on them. Face value alone there is over $3000 in coins, red bills, silver certificates, etc...Plus there is some kind of paper money from China or Japan that is really old. I don't know much about that one. I should probably look it up though.

He lives in a smaller town and people know about his collection. Many times if someone has needed money they will sell their coins to Dad.

In the 80's one of his "buddies" needed some cash so he sold Daddy over $400 in silver coins/old money for face value only.

My aunt runs a store and checks all of her coins. When she gets something Daddy would want she brings it home to him.

My grandmother hated pennies. She would either just throw them out the back door or burry them in a mayo jar in her backyard. Wish I could go baxck there w/a shovel and a metal detector (old mayo jars had the metal lids).
