Default In Europe all eyes will be on the Dow Jones tomorrow

All of the European indices were on a free fall today.
I heard that all eyes will be focussed on the Dow Jones to see how it will react tomorrow.
The Dutch stock exchange closed with a loss of I believe 5.8% and we were not the worst.

Depending on how things develop in the next days/week, there is now talk that a 'major recession' could be coming along which could also affect Europe.
    Your thoughts?

I read this on AOL this morning. Some markets were down 7%. This is really getting scary. It will be interesting to see how the market responds.

    I remember hearing someone say:
"When the USA catches a cold,
the rest of the world gets pneumonia".
    Seems to be very true.
" May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness, let us not forget it. One of the greatest lessons in life is learning to be happy without the things we cannot or should not have."

Thanks Paula for the link. I saw on the news that analysts are predicting about a 600 piont drop tomorrow. Due to the mortgage banking credit losses.

When I last checked this morning, the market had fallen about 200 points. I think it will fall further. My retirement funds are all in the market (and we are retired), so I take this very seriously. Had an email from our financial advisor this morning that the funds have fallen in the single digits, but not yet in the double digits.

We live rather frugally already, and I think we can continue. But some of our plans may have to go on hold.
    Spiritual:
"You are fearfully and wonderfully made." Please... respect life.

    Financial:
Debt free, hoping to stay that way!

I just checked it. It's fluctuating between a drop of 130 to 140 points. Bad, but not anywhere near 600. I'll keep my eye on it today.

I think it is important though to be prepared but not panicked. The market can be very cyclical; we had a recession in the early 90's and then we had a whirlwind of economic prosperty in the late 90's early 2000's. I think there are enough controls in place now to prevent a depression such as in the 1920's.

The Canadian has recovered over 1/2 it's loss from yesterday, most markets will do the same. some is related to the US market, others is just the natural cycle of the market. No panic required at this point. Just keep doing what you're doing. Pay off your debt, stockpile an *reasonable* pantry.
