Default Question for all New Yorker's

I am planning a day trip to New York in June with my husband and two kids. We live in VA so it's only a 3 hour train ride!! Anyways, was wondering about Broadway tickets? I have always purchased tickets in advance but was wondering if the same day tickets are actually cheaper and if they have a good selection? My kids have never been to NY before and a Broadway show is a must. Hoping to find the most inexpensive tickets.

    Thanks for the info!!!!

Same day tickets can be cheaper, but there is usually quite a line for them and the seat selection is horrible.

To be completely honest, if this is your children's first experience with Broadway, I'd suck it up and order ahead of time, being sure to get seats that are good enough that they will be able to get a full experience. There is absolutely nothing like your first time at a real Broadway show, and you want the experience to be complete and total.

I agree with AmyBoz....get good seats. Sometimes the same day seats are sold out by the time you get to the front of the line or you have to sit apart from each other.
My daughter is in musical theater and is scoping out colleges in NYC so we do ALOT of Broadway here!! lol
We live only 80 miles from NYC so we love to go to shows. When I get a chance I'll try to post some sites that would be helpful (and help you save) with regards to Broadway shows. Do you know what show you would like to see? I have several coupon codes for some current shows and would gladly share them with you.

I agree with Amy too, the lines are usually very long. I have never actually been to one because of that reason. Next time we go we will order in advance so that we can see a show .

I use to love going to Broadway shows, when I lived in NYC. I agree with the others and would go all out for your first time and pre purchase. Other wise it's not a guarantee you will get what you are looking for.

Every time I visit now, I always book ahead of time. I go through Broadway.com and can order tickets and also add a dinner on with it. Our last time we went to Tavern on the Green for $70 each(Included 3 course meal, taxes and tip). All paid for ahead of time. Not frugal, but well worth the experience and memories.
