Ontario to lift the ban the use of clotheslines by summer 2008
Wow I just heard this on the news! The province of Ontario is going to lift the ban on the use of clotheslines in time for this summer. The ban was imposed by some municipalities and homebuilders.
I have been hanging my laundry out back in the summers on and off since I've lived in this house....maybe it only applies to the newer subdivision homes?
Anyhow - Yay for frugality and saving the earth!!

I think that is so silly, that they banned it in the first place...but who knows, I'm sure someone did something that caused the ban!

My nieghbor helped DH put up my clothesline and the only rule he gave me, when they put it up...was that if I was going to fly underpants on the line...I could only do it after dark, cuz he didn't want to see it!
So, I dry our *delicates* inside!

Good stuff

It probably is the new communities that don't want those clothes hanging & whipping in the breeze, some think it looks too sloven. Enjoy the freedom to hang 'em!

Maybe it's just me, but I think a clothesline full of laundry blowing in the breeze gives a home a certain down home appeal. Especially when it's full of billowing white sheets or children/baby clothes. I would fight to the death to keep my clothesline!

It's fairly common for homeowner associations all over North America to have covenants forbidding the use of clotheslines, particularly in newer subdivisions. This law simply overrides those restrictions. If your clothesline was previously outlawed, you probably would have had some uptight neighbour complaining before now

It has to do with the Jones not wanting their neighborhood to look "poor".
being efficient and conscientious has nothing to do with being poor! I"d love a huge clothesline in my back yard, but my little umbrella one works just fine for clothes. I still might do a big one for sheets etc.
