Default What's housing like where you live?

I was looking up real estate listings near us. Prices here continue to climb. Here is a typical listing in the town where dh works....which is why we live out of town.

    $365,000
    3 Bed, 1 Bath
    966 Sq. Ft.

    $315,000 for a 1465 square foot 3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, and a 2 car Garage built in 2006

In West Roseville, it used to be that house would have been priced at $375,000 to $400,000; but with the problems with foreclosures the prices have dropped dramatically here.

Sdrjeolsen, the houses you posted would cost between $80,000 - $100,000 here depending on the area. For $365,000 you can get about 4,000 sq ft with a really nice finished basement, hardwood, tile, upgraded carpet, granite counter tops, 4 bedrooms, 4 & 1/2 bathrooms in a great location with great schools.

    I'm glad I live where I do!

We're getting ready to list our house actually -

    ~ 1600 sq
    2 bd 2 ba
    .46 acre
    built in 1990

Surrounded with green space, in desirable neighborhood on cul de sac, flat yard, large kitchen.

We bought it in Oct 2005 for $315K. Just before the housing bubble burst here we probably could have gotten $345K for it. We'll probably list it between $325K - $330K.

My brother lives in the midwest (greater Cincy area) and just bought a beautiful (although cookie cutter) home in a desirable subdivision - 2500sq, 4 bd 3.5 ba huge yard......$250K Makes me sick!

Here in small town kansas, we bought our
    6 bedroom
    1 office
    3 bathroom
    upstairs and downstairs living area
    large kitchen
    2 1/2 car garage
    .67 acre lot

    are you ready.......?

we got it for around 225K

now, mind you, it was rough, had not been lived in for one year, and had indoor/outdoor carpet in the kitchen

We have painted some, killed all the weeds and will be reseeding come spring, replaced the carpet in the kitchen with dura ceramic tile, and we are getting ready to redo our bathroom (that will be the biggest project so far

Denise, the houses that you've shown would probably go for under $100,000 in our area.

A report came out recently about the cities where you get the most bang for you buck as far houses go. Our city ranked in the top 10 nationwide for cities with 200,000 residents.

We have a 2800 sq foot of living space - completely remodeled and updated in 2003, 12 inch ceramic tile in over 1/2 house, crown molding throughout, inground pool, two decks in the backyard, on an acre lot on a quiet cul-de-sac, middle-class neighborhood, lots of designer extras, etc... We recently found out we have a working well in the backyard under one of the decks(yes, lived here for 4 years and never knew it the nextdoor neighbor had to show us). But that is not a selling point or a plus for us. We are actually having it capped or whatever you do to get rid of it/close it off. We use city water. We paid $135,000 for it at the height of the housing bubble(in other words we paid on the higher end of the spectrum for it).

Also, propoerty taxes are so low here - we are in the top 2% nationwide for property tax cost. We pay $400 a year in taxes.

I really do not like the city I live in but, our housing dollars do stretch pretty far here.

$350,000 will get you around 4000 sq ft, in one of the most exclusive gated communities here.

Around here, the house the OP posted would be roughly in the $50,000-$70,000 range.

In 1993 DH and I bought our first house about 3-4 miles from where we live now. It was 900 sq ft, 3br/1bath, 1/2 acre lot very basic starter home for $25,000. Our house payment was $225/month/15 year. My car payment back then was higher than my house payment.

My mom bought her present home for $63K ... its been quite a few years back i was in middle school and now im 26.

    4Bedroom
    1 Office/Bedroom
    2.5 bath
    2 livingroom
    1 dinning room
    1kitchen
    Full basement
    2 car garage
    1.5 Acres land

The year after she got it they increased the tax value on it 3 X because she had to do some work to get it fixed on the outside so it wouldn't fall down in a few years. The siding was rotting at the bottom, roof algea ridden, ect. All she has really done to the house is put on new siding and cut down trees around it so the algea wouldn't eat the roof.

I know for a fact if she goes to sell the place she will make a good amount of $ back.

Well lets see 2 years ago I bought a 55 yr old house that is 1800 sq ft approximatly for $102,900. That does not include the full basement or 3 car detached garage. In town lot. Nice sized

    You can still get a 3 bedroom/ 1 and 1/2 bath in town for $115 - $130 's older home.

We have a mixture of prices here, but because our area is quickly growing, housing tends to be more expensive. You can still buy a little 4 room house for under $100,000, but it's not much of a house. We bought our first home in 1975 for $19,000 and I thought we would be in debt the rest of our lives!

We're getting ready to sell our present home (wanna buy????), and we had an appraiser come out last week. We thought our place might be worth about $180,000, but he said it was more in the $220,000 range.

    Built in 1980
    log cabin
    2500 sq. ft.
    4.5 wooded acres
    solar
    3 bedroom, 3 1/2 baths
    finished walk out basement
    3 car garage
wood working shop and other small detached building

I was astounded at the price. Be nice if we could get it, but.......

We are looking at buying a house so we are looking at $238,500 and that would get you a single storied brick 4 bedroom house, 2 bathroom in a good area.

    $238,500
