Default Woo Hoo, taxes are filed

We did our taxes last night and should have our refund in 10 day's. This was the first year we had a good amount of mortgage intrest to file on there as well, and I couldn't believe what a difference it made over last year.

First off we are paying off credit cards.....joe will pay off his walmart card and say's he is going to cut it up and cancel it and along with my main credit card that I use for my online purchases, I am going to pay off Home Depot and JC Penny. The rest we will put toward finishing the basement and I am going to put a lot in my Christmas club account so I don't have to break into my savings or use credit cards next year at Christmas time.

Congrats!!! Doesn't it feel good to be able to pay some things off? I have been anxiously awaiting our W-2's. I will do our taxes as soon as I get them! With any luck, we'll be able to pay a few things off as well!!!!!

Congrats! We are going to start organizing everything that's come in and see what (if anything) we are missing. Dh does the taxes as I do the day to day finances.

I finished ours last nite as well. I'm excited we are going to pay off a loan from evilSIL, pay off an old overdraft loan Dh has been dragging around forever, another credit card, get a few minor home improvements taken care of before the baby comes and probably stash the rest in our ing for ds's school tuition or pay off one more CC

We have to wait until Feb 11th because of changes in the Alternative Minimum Tax:
5 kinds of forms: Form 8863 for education credits; Form 5695 for residential energy credits; Form 8396 for mortgage interest credit; Schedule 2, Form 1040A for child and dependent care expenses, and Form 8859 for a first-time homebuyer credit for D.C. residents, have to wait until Feb 11th to file

I did mine today. It was good news. When I did a rough calculation a couple of weeks ago, it looked like (gasp!) I was going to owe $1055. How did that happen?? But when I filed online today -- I had forgotten a big deduction - I only owe them about $253. And $113 to the state, for sales tax on online purchases. Grumble, grumble, but I guess Louisiana needs the income.

Woo hoo, indeed! Feel great doesn't it? I e-filed mine on Friday. The IRS site says I should have my refund by Feb. 12!! Hopefully, getting my mom's transportation situation sorted out will be quick once I get that money. Riding to work with my sister's maniac driving is giving me high blood pressure!
