    Default drug store glasses

you all know those glasses at the dollar stores or drug stores?

are they just glass in a pretty frame or do they actually do something?

i was wondering if they would help with anything like reading, driving, anything?

Those are generally reading glasses that will magnify print. Definately not to help with driving. You'd have to see an eye doctor and get a prescription for those type of glasses.

The glasses at the drug stores that I've seen are reading glasses. I originally bought a of prescription reading glasses from my optomitrist and they cost me $106. They were a regular glasses frame and had the scratch coating. I didn't know at the time I could buy almost the exact same thing for much less at the pharmacy.

I guess you learn from your mistakes because I recently needed a stronger pair and found some at the pharmacy for $12.00. I ended up buying two pairs, one for home and one for work. My arms just are long enough anymore to read fine print.

They come in .25 increments starting at 1.25 which is what I started with. I have 2.00 now and they are great for reading and my needle work. The strongest pair I saw were 3.00.

These would not work for driving, things close up are much clearer and a little larger but when you look up at a distance it is blurry.

Yes they are regular reading glasses. My husband has purchased his glasses from Costco (more modern frames) and from the dollar store. We have saved hundreds of dollars by not purchasing the frames from the eye doctor. We've been doing this for years.

Could you clarify that? I'm fighting getting glasses, but at 42 its getting harder, lol. If I got an eye exam, can I get the prescription glasses I need at the dollar store or a warehouse club type place? Or are you still talking about getting reading glasses there? I think I probably need a prescription pair. TIA

I'm betting you're like me, you just need reading glasses, dontcha know they say the eyes are the first thing to go Seriously, before anything else just go try on a set at the dollar store and read the print on an aspirin bottle, the difference is amazing, lol. I broke down this year and got some, I'm 44 (when did THAT happen!) My mom also got reading glasses at 44, finally got prescriptions in her late 50's.

I got two pairs at $1.00 each, just the 1.25 for now and the difference is amazing.

Yes, go have your eyes exam and found out what your prescription is. My husband (I think) is 2.75 and he only needs glasses for reading. We went to Costco and purchased their glasses, and when he lost those he went to the dollar store and bought more.

I only wear glasses for reading when I am tired, or for reading small print. The dollar store glasses do just fine for that. Plus they came in this nifty little case that fits right into my purse. I love 'em!

I just need glasses for reading and pretty much only in the evening or night. I have used the $ store and drug store kind but I also have a prescription pair. There really isn't a difference between them.

After I had my cataract surgery, I told the doctor that I didn't want bifocals.

He told me to get my driving glasses and get my reading glasses and the dollar store. He said I needed .250 and that there was no reason for me to get prescription reading glasses.

I was already doing that HA! I must have 10 pairs and they're stashed around the house.

    Love them!
