New Member from Western Kentucky
How did you hear about frugal village? Through a Google search for ways to save money and live on less.
What interests you here? The sheer numbers of people who are interested in the same things I am (saving money #1) and the return to a simpler life. I fully believe that we all can live a lot happier when we're frugal, simply because we learn to focus on the REALLY important things. I've already found so many great tips to help me on my journey.
What will you contribute? As many tips and tricks and ways to make life simpler and more humble . . . things that I've tried myself and know the results of. Other than that, we'll just hafta wait and see!
Do you know any other members here? Nope. But I hope to change that in the future.
How many kids? Ages? One daughter, 13 years old, she may not live to see 14 . . . TEENS ARGHHHHHHHHH!
Do you own any pets? Yes. Two dogs (female dalmatian and male border collie mix), two cats (both male), and two hamsters (we have no idea yet.) Hmmmm. It seems I like things in twos . . .
Occupation? Up until a week ago I was a pharmacy technician. Now I'm a new stay-at-home mom. We'll see how long it lasts.
Married or single? Married for 14 years to a wonderful hubby.
Interests and hobbies? A little bit of everything.
Tell us about yourself. Wow, where to start? I'm a 32 year old mother of one (as you read above) who just quit her job to stay at home. Not a spur-of-the-moment decision by any means, but one that was a long time in coming. My husband is a firefighter in a neighboring town and he's gone from home for long stretches at a time. I've found myself in the past few years really struggling to juggle my daughter's need for a LIFE and my job. It finally came to the point that I couldn't put my employment in front of Stephanie (my daughter) any longer and I quit. I've been on a medical leave the past few months and had that chance to see whether or not we could make this work.
Of course, it's a scary thing. Although I didn't make a huge amount of money ($20,000 yearly in this area is so-so) I still brought in a sizable addition to our income on a weekly basis. So now the challenge is to see what I can cut and how I can save money. We don't owe a lot of money on things (not owing on either vehicle helps) and in the past most of my paycheck has been blown on items and services that weren't really necessities. We, like so many others, have learned to spend what we make.
Just the fact that we were spending (among other things) $200 monthly to have our yard mowed because we weren't home . . . HELLO!
So here I am. Sitting here with one lamp on . . . the heat cut back . . . and (much to hubby's disgust HAHAHA) clothes lines strung up around the kitchen to cut back on the electricity the dryer is using. It's a good thing he's gone so much because he'd never be able to accept this when he was home. I don't think I could get away with having him duck under three lines to get to the bathroom
. So, laundry day will just be when he's on shift!
I'm gonna cut this short for now . . . so many forums to lurk through and so little time! See ya!

Thanks! Having so much fun already just sitting back and reading some of the challenges that y'all do.
Can't wait to get started.
And I just realized how much noise the dryer makes. I hadn't realized how loud that hummmmmmmm was. One more good reason to hang my laundry
. . . even if it IS in the kitchen. AND add to that not having the humidifier running because the laundry is giving off moisture . . . wow, I feel like I'm in a spa or on vacation. Soooooo quiet. Time to sit back and enjoy.
