update on depression $$$$ story
HI ALL!
Here's an update on that situation with the homeowner that hired the contractor to remodel and he found a load of depression era money in one of the walls.
Well they are still waiting to go to court but now some relatives of the previous owner say that they should get somewhere in the neighborhood of $182,000.00.
The woman who currently owns the house and is in possession of the $$$ said that she already has spent most of the $$$$ and if the court finds in favor of the other two then she will have to file for bankruptcy.
i'll keep you updated if i find anything else.

I think the money should be hers, but she is crazy for spending that money while knowing she is going to court over it.

Don't they have to prove that the source of the money was their ancestor?

Thats just crazy whom ever owned the home at the time of discovery should own the money.
The home was sold with the cash inside, even if the house went to the state and then was sold off from there it was sold off and all its contence now is owned by the person who owns it now.

What a story! This is fascinating. I vote for the current home owner to be the owner of the money.
Spiritual:

I think the homeowner is the legal owner. But I still would have given the builder some of it.

Wow that is insane.
I think it should go to the homeowner.
It sounds like the ex friend/contractor got greedy! If I was helping a friend and found that, I would not assume to get any. If she gave me some great... but I would not assume to get any. I might "suggest" she pay me to fix the rest of the house though, now that she could afford it!
Starve a bank... Pay cash.

I think that the homeowner would have the rights to the money.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.
