Grocery Tax
With the cost of groceries going up I was just wondering what kind of grocery tax everyone had to pay on top of the higher prices. Here in Mississippi we have a 7% grocery tax.

I tried to look this up on line, and the information I found was not exactly transparent to say the least.
Our overall sales tax in my city is 8.6%, 4% of that being the state's portion, the rest local. Apparently food is subject only to local taxes, so that would be 4.6%. Better than some, worse than most.Donna

Yep, here in Montgomery, AL our tax is 10% on EVERYTHING.
That is why I shop outside of he city limits - it is only 6.5% or I go to the next city over (only a 10 minute drve) where it is 8.5%.

In NY state, we do not pay tax on food. The only tax that is levied on food is food that has been prepared...cooked food from the deli, those rotisserie chickens, and foods from restaurants (fast food or otherwise). And obviously all non-food, durables, etc....On that the tax is 7.75%
