Talking ... but the machines are -always- right ...

DD had a 2 hour delay today which messes with my day because we live a distance from the school. No point really going home since I need to be at the school in a few hours...

To occupy my time, I stopped in to the local craft store. I bought some yarn and a book... I know.... I know... paying for patterns...

The cashier rang up the yarn, when I told her the price on the tag was different, she said "but the machines are always right". Not wanting to get in a debate with her, I asked for the manager. The manager came over, looked at the tag and dropped the yarn, and rolled his eyes at me... "The machines are programed with the correct prices. Do you want the yarn or not?"

If the manager hadn't been such a weenie, I don't think what happened next would feel like such a victory...

The cashier rang up the book and gave me my total... as I was handing her the money, she said... "That can't be right" and started to go over the charges... (who can see where this is going??? )

She called the manager over for a void so she can put in the price on the sticker... I waited... the manager came over and started to void out the book... I asked what was wrong, and the manager mumbled something about a price change...

"Excuse me, but I thought you said the machines are programmed with the correct prices, you instisted that I pay the price the register displayed for the yarn and I insist on paying the price the register displayed for the book"

    I paid the lower price
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

That's glorious, I'm a firm believer in karma. You handled it so much better than I would of; my head would started spinning when he told me I could either buy the yarn or not. Your a vigilanty who-hoo

I'd contact regional about the magr and the cashier's actions. They don't know anything about cust serv. Unless an object appears to have an obviously wrong price tag on it...than they are supposed to go w the cheaper price. I've worked retail-unless it was a huge difference(we worked w sold computers/equip-so sometimes someone would try to relabel on purpose but there are usually sku's on labels also) than the mgr would work something out,but usually they got that price...and then an associate would go relabel the other matching products.

That's cool! I may be mistaken but I thought that there was some law indicating that the posted/sticker price (not the "register's price which is always correct" as the 17-year-old managers like to state) is what a store has to charge you by law.

    That may vary by state....
