    Unhappy NIU Shootings

By now I'm sure you have all heard about the shootings yesterday afternoon. NIU is about an hour from my home and my neice attends college there. Thankfully we were able to get in touch with her right away and although she's very shaken up, she is ok. For some reason, yesterday one of her classes ran late..... otherwise she would have been walking back to her dorm and right in the path of the shootings.

These campus shootings have got to stop! And this really hit close to home

OMG, I have not heard this (going to news site now) but wanted to say I am glad your neice is okay and I hope she can recover quickly.

I am glad she is ok. I had not heard that either, but I worked late and have been watching kids shows this morning.

I'm in DeKalb and am an NIU alum. It has completely rocked our community. I don't think anyone ever expected this to happen in their own front yard, so to speak. As horrible as this sounds, we were crossing our fingers all night, hoping that we didn't know anyone who was shot. Unfortunately, someone I went to high school with became one of the 6 victims.

We plan on attending the candle light vigil on campus tonight as a family (along with many other families we know), and hope we can show our support that way.

We have a very wonderful community here, but it is going to take this town and the school a very long time to recover from this. There is a veil over the entire community right now. You go anywhere....gas station, grocery store, restaraunt...and you can see the tears behind every set of eyes.

Oh Sarah....so sorry for the loss of your H.S. schoolmate. Since there are no classes today my neice decided to come home and be with her mom & dad for the weekend.
